The originalAhsoka Tanoactress Ashley Eckstein shared her perspective on why Ahsoka is so important inStar Wars, 17 years after Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan debuted inStar Wars: The Clone Wars. There was plenty of resistance to Ahsoka when she arrived on the scene in 2008, particularly becauseStar Warsmovies and TV showshad up until that point not indicated that Anakin had a Padawan. Despite that initial response, Ahsoka is now considered one ofStar Wars’best characters.

In addition to her popularity with fans,Ahsoka has also become increasingly important to theStar Warsfranchise, and Ahsoka Tano actress Ashley Eckstein shared her opinion on why that is. At MegaCon 2025, Eckstein explained:

Ahsoka Tano looking mournfully into the distance on a farm in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi episode 6.

“The Daughter represents the light side of the Force, and so, when she gave up her life for Ahsoka, in many ways—this is just my personal opinion, so don’t get me in trouble with Dave Filoni—but I think Ahsoka in many ways represents the light side of the Force as well.”

This comment was specifically in reference tothe Mortis Godsarc inThe Clone Wars, which saw the Daughter use her dying moments to help Anakin transfer her life force into Ahsoka, bringing her back to life.

Ahsoka’s Biggest Alias Confirms Her Role In The Star Wars Story

“Ashla” Has Incredible Meaning In Star Wars

Eckstein is certainly onto something, particularly given the other major hintsStar Warshas since dropped that Ahsoka is now so much more than she seems. For one,Ahsoka adopted the alias Ashla, a name that carries incredible significance in the franchise. Among other references, Ashla and Bogan are the oldest names for the light and dark side of the Force—quite literally, Ahsoka adopted the name of the light side of the Force itself, in that sense.

Star Wars' Original Ahsoka Plan Hints At The Very Origin Of The Force

Dave Filoni’s original Star Wars plans for Ahsoka Tano reveal that Ahsoka may have a very crucial connection to the light side of the Force itself.

Star Wars’TV shows have also continued to link Ahsoka to the Daughter. InStar Wars Rebels, Ahsoka was still being followed by Morai, the Daughter’s convor. Ahsoka told Ezra Bridger that Morai had saved her life, presumably a direct reference to the Daughter saving her inThe Clone Wars. Morai continues to follow Ahsoka even now, appearing most recently intheAhsokaseason 1 finale.

What Does Ahsoka’s Nature Mean For Her Future?

Ahsoka Season 2 Seems Primed To Explore This

With Baylan Skoll’s apparent quest to find the Mortis Gods on Peridea inAhsokaseason 1,Ahsokaseason 2may also confirm this theory that Ashley Eckstein verbalized, or at least indicate what Ahsoka’s connection to the Daughter may mean for her future. At present, Ahsoka’s fate inStar Warsremains excitingly undefined. Her voice is among the Jedi who speak to Rey on Exegol inStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but her whereabouts betweenAhsokaand the sequel trilogy are unknown.

Many are worried that her voice inThe Rise of Skywalkermeans that Ahsoka dies by the beginning of the sequels (or at least byThe Rise of Skywalker), but that isn’t necessarily the case, especially if Ahsoka was destined for something greater. Perhaps on Peridea, Ahsoka is able to find true balance in the Force as the light side of the Force itself. While this is only theoretical for now, Ashley Eckstein’s perspective onAhsoka Tano’ssignificance following this arc inThe Clone Warsseems right on the money.
