FX’s Alien Show Is Bringing The Xenomorph To Earth 32 Years After Alien 3’s Teaser Trailer
Alien: Earth’s Teaser Trailer Is Not Misleading
WhileAlien 3never explored Earth, like its trailer suggested it might, the aptly titledAlien: Earthis confirmed to explore our planet. Not many details are currently known about the plot ofAlien: Earth, which is being developed byFargo’sNoah Crawley, butthe first teaser for the series included Earth’s reflection on the head of a Xenomorph. The voiceover in the brief teaser trailer forAlien: Earthstates: “In 2120, Mother Earth is expecting.”
The teaser confirms that at least one Xenomorph, and likely more, will hunt people who are residing on Earth in 2120. It has also been reported that the plot ofAlien: Earthwill explore some of Weyland-Yutani’s competitors. Since theAlienmovies have always focused on the evilWeyland-Yutani Corporation, it will be interesting to learn about other companies who also have ambitions to explore deep space. Therefore, by further developing the world of theAlienfranchise and being set on Earth,Alien: Earthhas set itself up to stand out in the sci-fi series.

Why Alien 3’s Teaser Announced The Franchise Was Heading To Earth (When It Really Wasn’t)
WhileAlien 3was actually set on the planet Fiorina 161,the teaser for the film led many to believe that it was going to be set on Earth. The iconic tagline for the originalAlienmovie was: “In space, no one can hear you scream.” Therefore, in the teaser trailer forAlien 3, the narrator states: “In 1979, we discovered, in space, no one can hear you scream. In 1992, we will discover, on earth, everyone can hear you scream.” This clearly suggests that the movie will be set on Earth, which is what most fans believed. However, that was never the intention of the marketing team behind the film.
By stating everyone can hear you scream on Earth, the team behind the trailer was simply trying to imply that people will be screaming in theaters whenAlien 3releases. However, they did not convey their intended message clearly at all, since most people thought the tease of Earth related toAlien 3’sstory.Alien 3famously went through a very long development process, and the final script for the film was not even finished when this teaser was released. Therefore, there were no other details about the film that would lead people to believe it wasn’t actually set on Earth.

The Alien Franchise Is In A Much Better Spot Now Than During The Alien 3 Fiasco
The Future Of The Alien Franchise Is Very Exciting
Alien: Earthwill be the first ever television series in the science fiction series, so it’s a very exciting time for the franchise. The lead up to the release ofAlien 3was not as exciting for fans of the franchise, since the movie went through several writers and directors. Multiple concepts forAlien 3were explored, and eventually,David Fincher ended up directing a film which featured Ripley fighting a single Xenomorph with several prisoners. Compared to the previous twoAlienfilms,Alien 3was very divisive upon its release, and currently has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 44%.
Alien’s Massive Franchise Retcon Risks Making Ripley’s Entire Story Pointless
By bringing the xenomorph to Earth, FX’s upcoming TV show Alien: Earth threatens to make Ripley’s story in the Alien saga completely pointless.
Alien 3tried to tell a unique story, but was largely viewed as a disappointment. WhereAlien 3failed,Alien: Earthcan succeed.Alien: Earthwill have the benefit of a much longer runtime to properly explore Earth, Weyland-Yutani, its competitors, and whatever else it plans on introducing to the series. In addition toAlien: Earth, a sequel to the critically-acclaimed movieAlien: Romulushas also been greenlit. Therefore, theAlienfranchise is in a much better place now than it was leading up to and following the release ofAlien 3.
