Amirah Johnson, who usually goes by her stage name, Amirah J, is probably best known for her role as Ava inHigh Potential, but she has a handful of credits to her name that many TV viewers will likely recognize her for. WithHigh Potentialseason 1 endingin February 2025, and the show being quickly renewed for season 2 afterward, it’s as good a time as any to check in on the cast members who helped the series achieve a 96% onRotten Tomatoes. One of these key players is Ava Sinquerra, played by Amirah J.

TheShameless Hall of Shameis a one-season miniseriesthat aired in the middle of season 11 and served as a retrospective of the series, juxtaposing scenes of characters from earlier in the season with scenes of them in the present, showing how they changed. It was a nice break whileShamelessspent some time off the air between December and the beginning section of the finale, which picked back up in March. All 6 Emma Canning TV Shows Ranked
Irish actress Emma Canning has only just begun her career but she’s already appeared in six notable TV shows since 2021 in important parts.
Amirah J. reprised her role as Xan Galvez in episodes 3, 5, and 6 and while she isn’t the most critical character in the respective, the fact she made it in at all says a lot. Xan last appeared on the show in season 9 and even within two years, a lot has changed. The difference between 2019 and 2021 is stark, and she’s a different actress at this point. Only knowing her from the earlier seasons, you might only see her as a kid actor, but with the retrospective, it’s clear she could handle something substantial likeHigh Potential.

With such along list of fantastic characters inShameless, it can be hard for any one to stand out, particularly if they’re only a recurring character. Xan Galvez (Amirah J.) manages to though, despite only being in seven episodes. Xan is Eddie’s (Levy Tran) niece and when Eddie gets up and leaves all of a sudden, Xan is left behind with only Lip (Jeremey Allen White) to take care of her. Though he has no legal reason to take care of her, Lip soon becomes a father figure to Xan, allowing her to stay in the Gallagher household.
He even plans to pay Xan’s birth mother, Mercy Galvez (Nicole Wolf), to sign over Xan to him and make Lip her legal guardian. Just as he’s about to pay, Xan happily runs to greet her mother, making Lip realize that it’s better if he gives Mercy another chance. It’s a surprisingly heavy role for such a young actress and, thoughShamelesshas a comedic and absurd tone, there’s always a dark undercurrent to the events that happen in the series. Xan is resourceful, funny, and smart, and Amirah J. doesn’t play her as too precocious.

The originalAll Thatpremiered in 1994 on Nickelodeon, lasting for ten seasons and introducing a whole generation of kids to sketch comedy. It was an incredible event for children who watched the network, with actors from other popular series starring in it, andguests would often appear, making it feel like everyone from your favorite shows were best friends. The show’s heyday was from 1994 to 2005 with actors like Kenan Thompson, Amanda Bynes, Jamie Lynn Spears, and Nick Cannon all having memorable seasons on the show.
All That(2019)
Margo
All Thatwas revived in 2019 and lasted for one year. The revived series featured an entirely new cast and brought back former cast members like Thompson and Spears for cameos. Amirah J. appears in episode 11 as a character named Margo. It’s only for one sketch, but her comfort in that live comedy zone shows a significant amount of maturity as well as talent. Shows likeShamelessandHigh Potentialfeature some major comedy stars, and it was probably this comedy background that gave producers the confidence to sign Amirah J.

Amirah J.’s career began in 2017, and she’s steadily found work since, following a similar path as many popular stars who began acting as children. WhetherHigh Potentialwill be the apex of her career or the beginnings of something big remains to be seen. I would put my money on the latter.
