The Three Women Book Was “A Gift” As An Actor For Betty Gilpin

Screen Rant: What was it that drew you to want to be a part of the Three Women series?

Betty Gilpin: Lisa’s book. I was such a huge fan of the book. My girlfriends and I read it immediately when it came out and couldn’t stop talking about it. As an actor, any part that I play, I try to do a lot of writing as the character. Their backstory, their greatest fears, darkest secrets, and innermost wants. And for this, all of that homework was done for me by a New York Times Best Selling writer this time. So, it was a complete gift as an actor. When I read the book, I had never read stories like this, or felt that way reading a book, and I thought, how amazing to be able to bring that to a screen, or help do that.

Bringing Three Women’s Stories To Screen Is Emotional For Betty

“Part of the beauty of the book is Lisa’s respect and care for these women”

Screen Rant: What does it mean to you to know that there are a lot of women who are going to watch this and be able to relate to your character on such a deep level?

Betty Gilpin: It makes me feel very emotional. You know? I think that part of the beauty of the book is Lisa’s respect and care for these women and their souls and their stories. That things that may seem shameful or taboo or eye-rolly to other people, Lisa treats these things like they’re the most beautiful parts of these characters and vital stories that need to be told and not die with them.

I think her writing this book means that those stories won’t die, and us doing this show means that those stories won’t die. And I think that seeing it on the page or on screen makes you realize, oh, gosh, I have X, Y and Z in me that I feel ashamed about, or something that I want that I don’t admit that I want. I think the more that we say these things out loud, the more that we are going to get what we want and dissolve the shame around that.

Screen Rant: Is there a pressure that comes along with telling a real person’s story?

Betty Gilpin: Of course. I put my trust in Lisa and would check in with her. Am I doing this right? And she assured me I was. Maybe that was lip service, I don’t know, but listen, I tried my best.

Betty Gilpin Offers An Update For The Tomorrow War 2: “I’ll Text Chris Pratt”

Screen Rant: Is there anyupdate onThe Tomorrow War 2? Because I’m very much looking forward to that.

Betty Gilpin: Oh gosh, I don’t know but we have to call it The 2morrow War, right? If we do make it. I’ll text Chris Pratt and ask.
