What This Trailer Means For Cross

Cross Is Mixing Canon With Original Storytelling

The newCrosstrailershowcases the storyline that will be at the center of the show, which isan original narrative not directly adapting any of the 32 extant novelsin the series. With its eerie new antagonist, it introduces a modern menace that feels in line with contemporary serial killer storytelling, ranging fromLonglegsto The Riddler’s appearance inThe Batman. The blank quality of the killer’s mask also hearkens back to iconic slasher villains includingHalloween’s Michael Myers.

At the time of writing, the James PattersonAlex Crossseries has run from 1993’sAlong Came a Spiderthrough 2023’sAlex Cross Must Die.

However, the new trailer alsoreveals certain ways thatCrosswill remain faithful to the canon of the booksin ways that some of the previous movie adaptations were not. This includes the offscreen death of Cross' wife Maria prior to the events of the show. The character was previously portrayed onscreen by Carmen Ejogo as a major part of the action in the 2012 Tyler Perry movie, which adapted Patterson’s 2006 novelCross.

Our Take On The Cross Trailer

The Show Could Become Another Prime Video Hit

The trailer also reveals thatCrossis in line with other recentPrime Video TV showsadapting iconic book series in terms of its tone, production value, and intensity. The streamer has recently put their weight behind quite a few comparable adaptations, including the Tom Clancy showJack Ryan, the Lee Child seriesReacher, and the Michael Connelly adaptationBosch. Given its similarity to those shows, it seems entirely possible thatthe James Patterson adaptation could become just as popularand run just as long as any of its predecessors.
