Dave Bautista Shares Exciting Update On His 2025 Directorial Debut

It’s being written by The Last Showgirl screenwriter and highlights Bautista’s directorial passion.

Screen Rant: This is a movie full of a fantastic ensemble cast. If you could hire any one of your co-stars to do a hitman job in a totally fictional world, who would you choose and why?

Dave Bautista: I would probably choose Sophia. Did you see her in Hotel Artemis? There’s just something mysterious and badass about her, but also [unassuming], like they wouldn’t see her coming. Yeah. So it’d be Sophia.

Last time you told me that you were setting direct your movie in 2025. Do you have any progress on that?

Dave Bautista: Yeah, making progress, having the script written up. The script is being written by the writer who wrote the film that I just recently did a premiere for, The Last Showgirl. Kate Gersten is her name. She’s writing up my script, my passion project, and I hope to be directing it sometime next year.

Sofia Boutella Is Thrilled To Be Teaming Up With Dave Bautista Again

“I was trying to be that fish around him that tickles him and then pushes his button in a fun way.”

Screen Rant: You are reteaming with Dave. Last time you worked with him wasHotel Artemis. What’s it been like toreteam with him onThe Killer’s Game?

Sofia Boutella: It was fun. It was a whole lot of fun because we didn’t have [many] scenes together in Hotel Artemis. I think we have one scene actually together, but we don’t interact in it. But in this one we interact a whole lot.

He is this big person, very imposing with all that strength, and I wanted to create something a bit contrasty with him which worked perfectly with our personalities. On set every time, I was trying to be that fish around him that tickles him and then pushes his button in a fun way. And so, yeah, it was a whole lot of fun to get together.

Terry Crews Clarifies That Everybody Still Hates Chris Is Not A Reboot

Screen Rant: Now, tell me about your character in this film and working with Dave.

Terry Crews: Well, Lovedahl is a killer who has a history with Joe Flood played by Dave Batista, but the big thing is he’s a throwback. Lovedahl is old school. He’s like a blaxploitation character. He thinks everybody else is out of style. You know what I’m saying? They don’t understand the game. They don’t understand the music. They don’t understand the love of what this is.

We even have this killer app, but you got to kill with style. You got to kill the right way. You know what I mean? I love this history, and I think that the good thing is, the way they left this is that we can keep going and we can keep growing this world, keep growing all this stuff. We can just keep expanding.

I want to see a sequel. I think with the reactions that I’m seeing right now, people are loving the film and it’s just perfect right now. I think it’s also the perfect length. If it was four hours, no, it’s like an hour and 20 and Bow. It hits you hard. It hits you fast, and it’s just so much fun.

I’m going to ask you about reprising your role as Julius inEverybody Still Hates Chris, the animated series. What can fans expect from that revival?

Terry Crews: you may expect a continuation of the same thing. See, remember we did four seasons, and we cut off. There was literally more stories to tell, and it was over. We literally pick up where the show left off. People like to call it a reboot, but it’s not. It’s me, Tashina [Arnold], Chris Rock. It’s the originals, and we literally are continuing the story right where it broke off. So my thing is you can actually watch the first four seasons and go right into the animated as if it never ended.

Marko Zaror Explains Why “There’s No The Killer’s Game Without JJ”

Screen Rant: You’ve known JJ for a long time, you guys worked onThe Rundowntogether. Talk to me about what his directing style added toThe Killer’s Game.

Marko Zaror: It is The Killer’s Game. There’s no The Killer’s Game without JJ. For me, for example, the challenge of creating a dancer fighter mix, the only way is to have a vision of a director that understand how to tell that story.

So that’s why that allowed me to bring it that far and go, okay, I’m going to make a new style where I’m mixing flamenco with martial art and it needs to look lethal, and we need to tell this story. JJ was the person that is able to have the visions to go, how are we going to shoot this to tell this story? So yeah, it’s like in that, at least in the action part of it, that’s why I was able to go to make that decision.

JJ Perry Says Casting Dave Bautista Was “Winning The Lottery”

Screen Rant: You have such a fantastic ensemble in this film. Can you talk to me about this incredible cast in this film?

JJ Perry: So getting the movie for me was a big win, but getting Dave Bautista was winning the lottery. He brought with him Sophia Boutella, who killed it, Terry Cruz and Drew McIntyre. And Marco Scott, Daniel Bernhard, Lucy Cork, Shana West, all this is like my homegirls and homeboys that I’ve been working with for years.

I know him since The Rundown. So when he was doubling The Rock and I was doubling Sean William Scott in 2003. So we all go way back. So if you’re going to go get in a fight somewhere, what are you going to do? You call all your homies. So I was like, Hey, I need your help. Everybody just showed up and there we are.

Author Says The Killer’s Game Was Dave Bautista’s Chance To Do A Romantic Comedy

Screen Rant: Dave is such a phenomenal actor and I feel that due to his size and his look, he’s underrated a little bit and I think he has so much range to him. Talk to me about what Dave brings to the role of Joe in this film.

Jay Bonansinga: I happen to know, I got some inside information that he really wanted to do a love story. He wanted to do a romcom or a love story or something, and Andrew Lazar, the great producer who I owe for sticking with this for 30 years, he said, well, how about a romcom with a lot of shooting and body hits and squibbs?

But it is a romcom and he’s right. It is a romcom. And James Coyne, who’s one of the two writers, he kind of pumped up the humor in my book. I have this droll dark humor and he pumped it up. So this movie is like my book on acid. It’s really an amazing transformation.
