Warning: Contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima episode #8.One of the most notable aspects ofDragon Ball Daimais how much it serves as a direct follow-up to the Majin Buu saga. In addition to finally exploring the Demon Realm, a place only offhandedly mentioned as Dabura’s homeworld, much has been done to flesh out Shin’s history and race, and unlikeDragon Ball Super, it’s done without relating everything to Beerus and the Gods of Destruction.

Another character who’s benefitted fromDragon Ball Daima’s focus on the Majin Buu saga is, of course, Majin Buu. Everyone associated with the Demon Realm has repeatedly reminded the audience that Majin Buu is a major character withinDragon Ball’s lore, and the latest episode has taken that even further to the point thatDragon Ball Daimaepisode #8revealed new information that makes Majin Buu the most important villain in the entire anime. That does a lot to justify Buu’s continued presence in the franchise, and it’s sure to lead to even greater things from the franchise, going forward.

Majin Buu Is The Reason Why Supreme Kais Exist In Dragon Ball

Dragon Ball Daima’s New Majin Buu Reveal Explained

Dragon Ball Daimaepisode #8 delved into the origins of Majin Buu’s creation, most notably with the introduction ofMajin Buu’s true creator, Marba, a demon whom Bibidi commissioned to create Majin Buu to make up for his lack of ability. As Marba and Arinsu discussed that fact, Arinsu also brought up how Majin Buu went on a rampage in the Demon Realm when he was born and killed many of the Glind, forcing most of them to leave the Demon Realm, meaningMajin Buu is the reason why Shin and the Kais stopped living in the Demon Realm.

Majin Buu forcing the Glinds to leave the Demon Realm is a big deal, especially because of one major implication behind it. With the Demon Realm existing outside the multiverse, the Glinds likely had no connection to individual universes before Majin Buu forced them to leave, meaning thatMajin Buu forcing the Glinds to leave the Demon Realm is likely what led to them becoming Supreme Kais i.e. some of the most important figures in theDragon Ballmythos. That means the entireDragon Balluniverse would be unrecognizable without Majin Buu, and that’s a startling thought to consider.

Dragon Ball Daima’s Majin Buu Reveal Makes The Supreme Kai’s Arc Even Better

Why Shin Is An Even Better Character In Hindsight

With Majin Buu’s connection to the Kais being as deep as it is, it makes Shin’s character arc even better in hindsight. In the Majin Buu saga, Shin already had plenty of investment in defeating Majin Buu as both vengeance for the other Supreme Kais and just fulfilling his duty, but with Majin Buu now being an enemy of the entire Glind race,Shin’s original conflict with Majin Buu retroactively has an element of him wanting to avenge the Glinds, as a whole. That adds far more depth to Shin’s character, and overall, it’s great to see.

That added depth to Shin’s conflict with Majin Buu also adds a lot to their current relationship. Shin, like many characters, became friends with Majin Buu after Kid Buu’s defeat, but it’s not just that Shin is one of many characters to forgive a genocidal monster, it’s also thatShin was willing to show forgiveness toward the ultimate enemy of his entire race by getting along with Majin Buu. Shin has always been seen as one ofDragon Ball’s weaker characters, but all of this does wonders to flesh him out, even if a lot of it is retroactive.

Dragon Ball Daima Justifies Majin Buu Being A Threat In Dragon Ball Super

How Daima Fixes A Major Powerscaling Issue

EverythingDragon Ball Daimahas just revealed about Majin Buu also helps to fix a powerscaling issueDragon Ball Superquickly ran into. Majin Buu is supposed to be feared as an unstoppable monster to the point that Frieza was warned never to mess with him, but Beerus and the other Gods of Destruction far eclipse Majin Buu in power. Moro and the Grand Supreme Kai also surpassed Majin Buu, as did characters from other universes, so as time went on,Dragon Ball Super’s powerscalingmade it increasingly hard to explain why Majin Buu was viewed as so dangerous.

Dragon Ball Supermade Majin Buu’s presence hard to justify, butDragon Ball Daimaworks to fix that. While it doesn’t make Majin Buu stronger than he already was, making him the personal enemy of the Supreme Kais, some of the most important figures in theDragon Ballmythos, means that he would always be viewed as a massive threat, regardless of powerscaling. The personal animosity the Supreme Kais have towards Majin Buu as established inDragon Ball Daimaexplains why he would still be feared in the wake ofDragon Ball Super’s powerscaling, and overall, that’s great to see.

Dragon Ball Daima Continues Making The Majin Buu Saga Better

How Daima Is Saving Dragon Ball’s Most Controversial Arc

Even with it being around 30 years old, the Majin Buu saga is still the most divisive ofDragon Ball’s original arcs. Not only was it quick to drop the idea of Gohan becoming the protagonist, but the generally more lighthearted tone was something of a turnoff to people who wanted more serious action.Everything about how the Majin Buu saga is structured makes it one ofDragon Ball’s most divisive saga, and while opinions on it have softened in recent years, it’s still largely seen as a low point in the franchise for many.

The Majin Buu saga has always been divisive, and that’s a big part of whyDragon Ball Daimais so great. Episode #8’s efforts in reminding the audience why Majin Buu was, and still is, such a threat are one thing, but even before that, between the way it fleshed out magic and the Demon Realm and put Shin in the spotlight, every episode ofDragon Ball Daimahas done a great job of highlighting why certain elements of the Majin Buu saga were better than people gave it credit for, andDragon Ballis all the better for it.

While some of the criticisms aren’t unfounded, the way the Majin Buu saga tried to balance comedy and action was a clear attempt at bringingDragon Ballback to its roots as an action comedy, and with its strong action and writing, it did a great job of that, even if not everything about the execution worked. With the increased importance of Majin Buu and other factors, however,Dragon Ball Daimais doing a great job of succeeding where the Majin Buu saga failed, and there’s bound to be even more of that in the weeks to come.
