Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima Episode #2Dragon Ball Daimahas indicated at the end of episode #2 that Vegeta won’t be joining Goku on this quest, at least to start with, and that may have been one of the best ideas the series has had yet. Vegeta’s absence will make room for new characters to get their time to shine, while keeping Vegeta in the series' back pocket to play at a later time.

Despite desiring to come along, Vegeta was forced to stay on Earth when Glorio’s craft was only capable of bringing Goku and the Supreme Kai with him. Fortunately, Vegeta does have another option to get to the Demon Realm–the ship left behind by the Supreme Kai, which Bulma is fixing. The only problem is that Vegeta will have to wait several days for Bulma to complete the repairs, meaning they’ll have to head into the Demon Realm later and find a way to meet up with Goku, who will have already been there for a while.

Leaving Vegeta Behind Was the Right Call

It Makes More Sense to Send Supreme Kai than Vegeta Right Now

Since Vegeta’s seat on the ship was effectively taken by Supreme Kai, it’s hard not to compare how the two would be useful in the Demon Realm. Vegeta brings power, but that’s pretty much it, and he, like Goku and Piccolo, likely isn’t used to his new, smaller form yet, limiting the power he can bring to bear. Supreme Kai, however, has some knowledge of the Demon Realm, as well as a direct personal connection to the conflict by his siblings being involved with the Demon King.Supreme Kai simply has more to offer at this stage in the story, but Vegeta isn’t totally useless.

Bringing Vegeta would also force the story to focus heavily on Goku and Vegeta’s relationship, which, while a fan favorite, wouldn’t necessarily be the best move forDaimaat this stage.Daimais not only introducing a new world, but several new characters as well, and it’s going to take time to get to know them. Without Vegeta around, Goku will have an easier time getting to know these new characters and their motivations, building the trust that’s necessary to work with them.

Dragon Ball DAIMA Shenron-1

The same is true of Bulma and Piccolo, who look like they will also be joining the adventure later on, based on the end credits. While fans definitely want to spend some time with their favoriteDragon Ballcharacters, and not just new faces, limiting the cast size initially will actually go a long way towards developing the new characters into fan-favorites. Piccolo’s time in the Demon Realm should be particularly interesting, given the Namekians' past there, and offers a chance to develop his character more in exploring his past.

Focusing On New Characters is Important

Daima’s New Cast Members Must Make An Impression

Dragon Ball Daimaisn’t just introducing new characters for the fun of it;it’s clear that Glorio has a big role to play in the story ofDaimaalready, and he’s here to be more than just transportation for Goku and Supreme Kai. He has his own motives for approaching Goku, and they have yet to be fully explained. He seems to be against Gomah as Demon King, but beyond that, it’s not clear why he’s choosing to act in the way that he is. Supreme Kai is understandably suspicious of him at this stage, but hopefully, Glorio’s reasons for doing this will help allay those fears.

It’s also important to remember that Glorio won’t be the only new character on this journey. From trailers and the credits, another companion, known as Panzy, can also be seen. While she has yet to appear in the series, it seems likely that she’ll show up soon, perhaps once Goku and Supreme Kaiarrive in the Demon Realm. Even Panzy’s relationship to Glorio is a mystery at this stage, and it will take time to explore both these characters, as well as the new villains.

Piccolo and Vegeta join Goku’s group in the credits.

Dragon Ball DAIMA Introduces A Big Shenron Retcon That Changes His Relationship With Goku Forever

Shenron is one of the most important characters in Dragon Ball with unparalleled sway over its characters, but DAIMA retcons his wish parameters.

And, while the Supreme Kai is a familiar figure to fans now, there are still a lot of things about him which aren’t known, such as these long-lost siblings of his. It looks likeDaimais going to reveal a lot about how Kais are named and where a Kai originates from, and making these other Kai siblings into villains seems to confirm once and for all that not all members of the Kai race are good, divine beings. Making the Supreme Kai Goku’s primary ally for this adventure gives the story a chance to reveal a lot of lore which might otherwise be missing if Vegeta were present instead.

Fans Shouldn’t Worry, as Vegeta Will Be Helping Out Later

Vegeta and Piccolo Won’t Be Sitting Out For Long

As indicated by the end credits, Bulma, Piccolo, and Vegeta will be joining Goku, Supreme Kai, and Glorio later on, sofans of Vegeta need not fear, as he still does have an important role to play in the story ofDaima. With threats like the Tamagami, who protect the Demon Realm dragon balls, already teased, Goku is sure to need all the help he can get in this adventure, and powerful allies like Piccolo and Vegeta will be crucial to his success.Gomah may not seem like much, but it’s clear he’s no pushover even this early in the series.

This delay does offer Vegeta and Piccolo the valuable opportunity to train in their new small forms, ensuring they’ll be of help when they do finally reach the Demon Realm. Goku was still shown to be adjusting, so he’ll have to adapt on the fly, but Vegeta and Piccolo have access to all the training tools that they usually have to help re-establish their powers. The two warriors will hopefully be able to adjust quickly, and with any luck, Bulma will have them on Goku’s trail in no time. Until then,Dragon Ball Daimawill have to focus on Goku and his new allies, offering fans the chance to get to know a new potential favorite.
