Warning: Contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima episode #12.Dragon Ball Daimahas finally done somethingDragon Ballfans have waited years for: give Vegeta Super Saiyan 3. Even with all the leaps in power Vegeta has taken, it’s been a major sticking point that he’s never unlocked Super Saiyan 3, as while he’s unlocked far more powerful forms, it makes his rivalry with Goku feel less even with Vegeta not having something to match each of Goku’s forms.
Vegeta has spent years without using Super Saiyan 3 in any official media, but that’s finally changed as ofDragon Ball Daimaepisode #12. Episode #12 continuedthe fight between Vegeta and Tamagami Number Two, and in a surprise twist,Vegeta, for the first time inDragon Ballhistory, used Super Saiyan 3 during the fight with Tamagami Number Two, with Vegeta unlocking it at some point offscreen after the Majin Buu saga. The implications of Vegeta’s Super Saiyan 3 transformation are incredible, and there’s no telling what it could mean forDragon Ball DaimaandDragon Ball, overall.

Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta Is Everything A Dragon Ball Fan Could Have Asked For
Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta is somethingDragon Ballfans have been waiting decades to see be made canon, andDragon Ball Daimaepisode #12 delivered on all fronts. While Vegeta’s Super Saiyan 3 form doesn’t have the same long hair associated with the form, the short, spiky version of Vegeta’s Super Saiyan 3 form is both highly unique and looks great from every angle, especially with how it looks like a star from the front. The appearance appears to take inspiration from one of Akira Toriyama’s early designs for Super Saiyan 3, and that makes it even greater to see.
Going right along with that is the power presented in the form. In addition to the great presentation of its debut, the fight between Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta and Tamagami Number Two was made to look as gorgeous as possible with its great animation and fight choreography, with one particularly standout moment being when Vegeta launched a hit so powerful it split the sea in two. It was one of the best fights inDragon Ball Daimato date, and that level of quality was perfectly befitting a development as tremendous as Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta.

Why Doesn’t Vegeta Use Super Saiyan 3 In Dragon Ball Super?
Is Dragon Ball Retconning Its Story Again?
As great as Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta is to see, it begs the question of why Vegeta never used it inDragon Ball Super.Supernever suggested that Vegeta could useSuper Saiyan 3, with him notably only going Super Saiyan 2 at best when he fought Beerus, soVegeta knowing Super Saiyan 3 inDragon Ball Daimaappears to be a retcon of Vegeta’s skillset inDragon Ball Super.Dragon Ballis a series that’s been filled with retcons since its early days, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Vegeta knowing Super Saiyan 3 was another example of such.
That being said, it might not be as blatant a retcon as people think. Super Saiyan 3 is notable for its severe power drain, and with Vegeta unlocking Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue early intoDragon Ball Super,Vegeta might not have used Super Saiyan 3 inDragon Ball Superbecause he was never in a situation where it would have helped him. FutureDragon Ballstories will hopefully explain things, but regardless, Super Saiyan 3 is sure to go down as one of the biggest moments ofDragon Ball Daimaby far, if not the biggest.
