WARNING: SPOILERS FROM DRAGON BALL SUPER MANGA
Summary
Dragon Ball Superintroduced a terrifying new level of power when it introduced the God of Destruction,Beerus, but the series failed to show him using anything close to the level of eradicationBrolydisplayed in hisDragon Ball Zdebut. The incredibly stylish and well-writtenDragon Ball Super: Brolyfilm reintroduced the fan-favorite Saiyan while changing his character and backstory. While the canon version of Broly is undoubtedly mighty, he is not as strong as a God of Destruction as he was in his first movie.
Broly became one ofDragon Ball Z’s most beloved villainsafter his debut in the 1993 movieDragon Ball Z: Broly—The Legendary Super Saiyan. His reputation caused Vegeta to shake in his boots, but it was not the most intimidating feat the rage-filled Saiyan pulled off in the movie.

The eighthDBZmovie begins with the sudden deletion of the entire South Galaxy, one of the four galaxies that made up theDragon Balluniverse. King Kai shuddered at the dramatic event caused by the Legendary Super Saiyan Broly as he feared the threat would move onto his and Goku’s universe next.Dragon Ball SuperretconnedDBZ’s filler world-building by introducing multiple universes ruled by Angels, Gods of Destruction, andDragon Ball’s strongest character, Grand Zeno. Still, very few of them compared to Broly’s might.
Broly Was So Legendary He Became Canon
Dragon Ball Super’s Version of Broly Has Appeared in the Movie and the Manga
The events of theDBZfilms are considered non-canon to the franchise’s overarching storyline, but Broly was such a hit with fans thatDBSdecided to bring him back and fit him into the storyline. However, a few other changes to the franchise’s canon introduced the idea of multiple universes and deities that overlook their creation and destruction. And while the Gods of Destruction are said to be the strongest in the universes, even the strongest,Beerus, has yet to demonstrate the level of devastation Broly displayedduring the destruction of the South Galaxy.
When Broly’s character was re-introduced in hisDBSmovie, he still held earth-shattering amounts of latent power inside of him. He was trained to fight by his abusive father, but the depths of his strength were not pushed until Frieza brought him to Earth to fight Goku and Vegeta. Their ensuing battles would shake the fabric of reality, but latest version of Broly has not come close to the power level needed to erase an entire galaxy as quickly as he did in his non-canonDragon Ball Zmoviedebut.

Dragon Ball’s Strongest Saiyan Ever, Broly, Was Actually Inspired By The Worst Super Saiyan Transformation
Broly has become a classic element of the Dragon Ball franchise, but his original inspiration happens to be one of the worst forms in the series.
The Strongest Attack From Beerus Is Lacking Compared To DBZ Broly’s
Despite Goku’s Incredible Strength, Beerus Was Holding Back During Their Fight
Beerus’s introduction started theDBSstoryline and also revealed a new divine level of power for Goku and Vegeta to reach for. He proved capable of destroying entire planets without barely raising a finger. In his ultimate bout against Goku and his newly awakened Super Saiyan God transformation, the God of Destruction produced dozens of energy ball attacks, each with the power to destroy Earth, with the same attitude as if he was playing with his food. Goku was able to defend Earth from the largest display of Beerus’s power that fans have seen yet.
If Gods of Destruction are as powerful as they have been hyped up to be, then Beerus should be able to wipe out a galaxy, maybe more in a short amount of time. However, the only character who displayed their ability to wipe out celestial bodies in the blink of an eye, as Broly did in hisDBZmovie, was Grand Zeno. According to the highest-ranking angels, Zeno previously erased six universes at once and destroyed several more during the Tournament of Power. Even thestrongest attacks from Gokuor Buu don’t compare to what Zeno and Broly displayed.

The Legendary Super Saiyan’s Debut Could Be Considered Excessive
Broly had one of the most intimidatingDragon Ballvillain introductions, but he was no god. While fighting Goku and the other Z warriors, he was a hulking monster unphased by point-blank Kamehameha Waves. However, he never demonstrated another attack capable of obliterating multiple planets simultaneously, let alone an entire galaxy. He was defeated in his first movie when all of the injured Z warriors gave their energy to Goku to deliver an ultimate punch to Broly’s chest, which proved to be strong enough to defeat the Legendary Super Saiyan, until the events ofBroly - The Second Coming.
Dragon Ball Supersaw a dramatic shift in Broly’s character with his personality and power levels, but he is still more than capable of accidentally destroying planets. The latest manga chapters showed how far the hulking Saiyan has advanced in his training to control his powers while also coming off as a gentle giant. With his aptitude for destruction and after receiving training on Beerus’s planet,Broly becoming the next God of Destruction would be a welcome surprise. Even then, it’s unlikely thatDragon Ball Super’s version of Broly will be shown erasing a galaxy again.

Dragon Ball
From the creative mind of Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball is a mega multimedia franchise that spans back to the 1980s. Dragon Ball expanded quickly, starting as a serialized manga for Weekly Shonen Jump in Japan. It made its way overseas via manga and an anime adaptation that is enjoyed worldwide. Dragon Ball was the initial starting animated series that followed the adventures of the young Son Goku as he sought after the Dragon Balls. These mystical orbs would grant the wish of any who gathered them together. Then, the series would branch off into the immensely popular Dragon Ball Z, which followed Goku as an adult and featured high-intensity battles and Goku’s never-ending search to be the strongest. The series has also enjoyed several popular video game adaptations and continues to release several new animated series and theatrical films up to the recent popular Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
