Since the events ofEndgame, there have been many major events in theMarvel Cinematic Universethat the Avengers have seemingly ignored. TheMCU’s movie timelinehas introduced a number of powerful heroes, with many such characters teaming up to form the Avengers. Known as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Avengers’ primary concern has always been to protect humanity’s home from significant threats, with major events often drawing the team out in defense of the Earth.
AfterAvengers: Endgamesaw many of the franchise’s original Avengers retire or die, the team was weakened significantly, having seemingly disbanded. However, there have since been many events in the movies andTV shows of the MCUthat have established major events that would warrant the intervention of the Avengers, especially since some of the heroes were shown to still be in contact, and could logistically still band together for specific threats. As the Avengers have been nowhere to be seen sinceEndgame, here is every major event that the team has seemed to ignore.
8Wanda’s Crimes Against Westview
WandaVision (2021)
In the immediate fallout from the events ofAvengers: Infinity WarandAvengers: Endgame, Wanda Maximoff was one of the few remaining Avengers in the MCU. Her grief over losing Vision contributed in part to the creation of the Westview Hex, in which Wanda magically imprisoned an entire town in a sitcom-like reality bubble. Dubbed the Westview Incident, it was established as a major event in the franchise, having implications even for futuremovies in the MCU.
The complex emotional narrative behind Wanda’s actions in Westview made for a compelling story, and considering the scope of the incident, it would have been an obvious concern for the Avengers. The remaining members would surely have wanted to check in on their grieving teammate, andthe number of lives at stake should have been of concern to the MCU’s other heroes. However, the Avengers ignored the Hex entirely, and have only referenced it in passing in the years since.
7The Emergence & Arishem’s Appearance
Eternals (2021)
Theending ofEternalsbrought many revelations to light, not least that a Celestial named Tiamut had been slumbering inside the Earth. The Emergence – the awakening of Tiamut that would be immediately followed by the Celestial destroying and ingesting the Earth – was stopped by the Eternals, though not until it was already underway. The Earth-shattering nature of the event made it a concern for the entire planet, with all of humanity doomed had it actually occurred.
Interestingly, none of the Avengers were present at all in any stage ofEternals’ story. Considering the film’s plot concerned Deviants attacking various locations around the globe and then a colossal being threatening humanity’s existence, it seems decidedly odd that the Avengers did not investigate.Considering the catastrophic potential of the event, the fact that the Avengers did not get involved in any way still seems incredibly bizarre.
6No Way Home’s Multiversal Chaos
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Thecast ofSpider-Man: No Way Homebrought many characters back from previous non-MCU Spider-Man movies after Doctor Strange helped Peter Parker dabble in reality-warping magic. The result was Multiversal chaos, with multiple villains appearing in the MCU and attacking New York, making headlines on several occasions. The movie began with Peter Parker’s identity being exposed to the world, and built up to a reality-shattering climax that required the hero to make a huge personal sacrifice.
The fact that the Avengers did not intervene to support one of their teammates seems a little odd.Aside from Doctor Strange, no other Avenger checked in on Peter, or offered any help with the five Multiversal villains attacking New York.Ultimately, it seems as though the MCU’s surviving Avengers simply chose to ignore the major event.
5Wanda’s Scarlet Witch Turn
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Wanda Maximoff’s time as a fully-fledged MCU hero was clearly over after the events ofWandaVision, as the Westview Hex turned many against her. As the show ended with Wanda acquiring the Darkhold, her shift to become a villain inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesswasn’t entirely unexpected. As a continuation of the narrative arc that began inWandaVision,Multiverse of Madnesssaw Wanda fully embrace the identity of the Scarlet Witch, establishing herself as an especially powerful villain.
Even putting their absence in WandaVision aside, the fact that the Avengers didn’t come to Doctor Strange’s aid inMultiverse of Madnessseemed equally bizarre. Wanda’s attempts to locate her children in other realities put multiple universes at risk, and yet the MCU’s surviving Avengers were nowhere to be seen. Though the most powerful characters of other realities – namely, theheroes of Earth-838’s Illuminati– attempted to stop the Scarlet Witch,the Avengers themselves seemed disinterested in her potentially reality-destroying crusade.
4Namor’s War On Wakanda
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
Black Panther: Wakanda Forevertackled the unenviable task of introducing the first mutant to the MCU. He came in the form of Namor the Sub-Mariner, who appeared after a conflict arose between Wakanda and the underwater nation of Talokan. Namor’s attack on Wakanda was precipitated by the creation of a vibranium detector that threatened to expose his kingdom to humanity, as well as blaming Wakanda for the invention of the device. This led to a large-scale conflict between the two powerful nations, resulting in innumerable deaths on both sides.
The scale of the conflict will undoubtedly have had far-reaching implications in the MCU, not least as Wakanda is one of the franchise’s most powerful nations. Even so, none of the Avengers were present inBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever. This seems especially odd when considering thatthey’d likely have been aware of T’Challa’s death and would have therefore known that Wakanda was without its traditional protector. Even so, the Avengers did not get involved in the conflict between Wakanda and Talokan.
3The Skrull Rebellion
Secret Invasion (2023)
Secret Invasionmight have earned the unfortunate reputation as the MCU’s worst TV show, but it also established some of the most major Earth-bound developments sinceAvengers: Endgame. Following Nick Fury as he investigates and attempts to thwart a group of Skrull extremists intent on sparking World War III,Secret Invasion’s story features some major narrative points for the franchise. With that in mind, it seems especially strange that the Avengers ignored the entire thing.
The Skrull attacks around the world, as well the murder of Maria Hill and the reveal that one of their own members had been replaced by a Skrull, all should have combined to pique the Avengers’ interest.With nuclear war looming, it would seem a perfect opportunity to call in the Avengers, though the heroes were nowhere to be seen. Considering the massive potential for death and destruction had Gravik not been stopped,Secret Invasion’s endingwould seem to be one of the most major events that has been ignored by the Avengers sinceEndgame.
2The Marvels' Convergence
The Marvels (2023)
The Marvelsbrought together a new team of heroes in the MCU, with Captain Marvel, Ms Marvel, and Monica Rambeau all joining forces. However, the three-hero team faced the near-impossible task of opposing Dar-Benn and her Kree forces, who were using a Quantum Bangle as a means of bringing their home planet, Hala, back to life. Doing so saw them target multiple planets, the last of which being Earth. Though the Marvels were able to stop Dar-Benn in the end, it wasn’t before she threatened to destroy the Earth entirely.
With the Earth being so directly threatened, it seems to have been a job for the Avengers. Additionally, Nick Fury playing such a major role inThe Marvels’ story makes calling in the MCU’s remaining Avengers seem the most logical course of action, as both their former teammate and the Earth itself were at stake.Despite the planet ending up on the verge of total annihilation, the Avengers simply ignored the major events ofThe Marvels.
1Red Hulk’s Attack On The White House
Captain America: Brave New World (2025)
After the Avengers’ former adversary, Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, was elected President of the United States, a race to control the newfound supply of adamantium threatened to spill over into global conflict. Captain America’s investigation uncovered that Ross was being manipulated by the Leader, learning all too late that Ross himself had been unwittingly ingesting gamma pills. Ross’s transformation into Red Hulk saw him destroy the White House, with Captain America eventually able to talk him down.
With one of the world’s most powerful men transforming into Red Hulk on live television, it would have seemed a crucial time for the Avengers to intervene. ThoughCaptain America: Brave New Worldestablished that Sam Wilson will formally revive the Avengers, the surviving heroes still active in the franchise could theoretically easily have arrived to offer support in subduing Red Hulk. However, Ross’s rampage at the White House simply turned out to be another major event that the Avengers ignored in theMarvel Cinematic Universe.
