Summary
Friday the 13thprequel seriesCrystal Lakehas returned from the dead, with a new showrunner now leading production on the A24 streaming series. Announced in 2022 as a streaming series for Peacock, theupcomingCrystal LakeTV showhas very few story elements revealed as of writing, aside from being expected to take place prior to the events of the movie. However, it was previously reported that the series had been potentially cancelled, with showrunner Bryan Fuller having been fired from the project by A24 in May of this year.
Now,Varietyreports thatCrystal Lakehas returned from the grave, withBrad Caleb Kane tapped as the new showrunner for the upcomingFriday the 13thprequel show.Although details about the series remain sparse, the new showrunner has expressed excitement about being involved in the series, explaining his adoration for the franchise. Check out what Kane had to say about running the new prequel series below:

From the moment I watched Jason Voorhees squeeze a guy’s eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the tender age of 8 years old, I knew my creative path was someday destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask. Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher flick, and nothing’s defined the genre more than ‘Friday The 13th.’ I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24.
He’s Already Working On Another Anticipated Horror Prequel
Kane has been a writer on a variety of drama series, including the sci-fi showFringeand the historical fiction seriesBlack Flag. However, his latest work is the forthcomingItprequel TV seriesWelcome to Derry, for which he was both co-showrunner and executive producer. While the Stephen King-based horror series doesn’t come out until 2025, it appears to have instilled plenty of confidence in him as a creator to take on theFriday the 13thprequel show. The first horror prequel may just determine what to expect fromCrystal Lake.
However, the slasher prequel’s details are still under wraps, as it’s unclear how much of Fuller’s reportedHannibal-like vision for original vision for the series is going to be preserved in the final product. Since A24 fired him from the production,it’s reasonable to deduce the show is going in a different direction than its original showrunner intended. However, the plot now remains unclear, making it a mystery what direction the series is going to take. Hopefully, Kane’s guidance can keep it in the spirit of the original while crafting its own identity for the small screen.

I’m So Disappointed A24 Canceled Its Friday The 13th TV Show - It Sounded Perfect
Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller’s canceled plans for Friday the 13th’s prequel show, Crystal Lake, sounded like they would have been incredible.
SinceCrystal Lakewill be making its own mark on theFriday the 13thtimeline, it seems anything could happen regarding the series' development as a new entry in the franchise.Perhaps the show will acknowledge the events of the movie and focus on Pamela Voorhees' revenge, or it will take an entirely new approach, making itself both a prequel and a reboot at the same time. With plenty of avenues for Kane to take the show, it will be interesting to see how the A24 production shapes up when it arrives on Peacock in the future.
Crystal Lakedoes not yet have a production window, nor a release date.
