Hogwarts Legacyhides many secrets within its magical walls andone player has come in contact with what may be the creepiest after they flew too far over The Black Lake. Any fan of the Wizarding World is well aware that the gigantic body of water that lies just outside Hogwarts actually contains a massive beast: The Giant Squid is commonly spotted by students walking the grounds or going for a swim. It’s an odd beast, one that has been partly domesticated and appears to be friendly to anyone who disturbs it.
Posted to Reddit by userHarley4L, theHogwarts Legacyfan shared a video of their character flying around the Black Lake whenthe Giant Squid suddenly hoists its tentacles out of the water, waving them around in the air.

Not satisfied with simply flying around,Harley4L leaped off their broom and took a brief swim with the cephalopod, which wasn’t aggressive to their presence and seemed to maintain its usual animation. Despite the encounter not ending in a battle, manyHogwarts Legacyfans noted their discomfort, suggesting that they’d rather have not seen the creature at all.
The Giant Squid Likes To Be Noticed
It’s Certainly Not A Monster
While players can easily spot the Giant Squid by flying around The Black Lake, there is another way to encounter the creature. In the Slytherin Common Room, students can look across the main sitting area to the massive windows that peer out into the lake’s waters.Firing spells at the glass somehow irks the Giant Squid, causing it to smash a tentacle against the window; one might think the force would be enough to break the structure but thanks to magic not a single crack is left.
The Giant Squid may be an imposing creature but based onHarry Potterlore, the underwater monster is actually fairly gentle. It enjoys when Hogwarts students feed it bread and even rescued Dennis Creevyafter the young wizard manages to accidentally fall into its territory. When given the chance to attackVictor Krum during the Triwizard Tournament, it elects to spare him, suggesting that it has a more gentle nature than its appearance would imply.
