Avengers: Doomsdayis continuing to add moreX-Menactors as more iconic Marvel stars are returning to theMarvel Cinematic Universe. As a big shock in the middle of the week, a surprise Marvel Studios announcement launched on Wednesday, March 26, with a live stream that is still currently airing in which they are slowly revealing stars who are set to appear inAvengers: Doomsday. In addition to the names being revealed one after another, Marvel Studios has also confirmed thatAvengers: Doomsdayis in production.

WhileMarvel Studios' ongoingAvengers: Doomsdaycast revealis still revealing multiple actors who will be part of the film, two additionalX-Menstars from the Fox-Marvel era are set to appear in the Phase 6 film: Sir Patrick Stewart will be back as Professor X along with Sir Ian McKellan as Magneto. Check out Marvel’s announcements below:

Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, and Ian McKellen as Magneto in X-Men The Last Stand

Avengers: Doomsdaywill be Stewart’s second MCU movie, after he portrayed a Charles Xavier variant inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesson Earth-838 before getting killed by the Scarlet Witch. The last time fans saw his main version of Professor X in Fox’s X-Men universe was inLogan, where Xavier’s journey came to a tragic end.

For McKellen,Avengers: Doomsdaywill mark the first Marvel Studios movie that he has ever been in after he last portrayed Magneto in 2014’sX-Men: Days of Future Past.McKellen and Stewart will also be joined by Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, who was the firstX-Menactor to be revealed forAvengers: Doomsday.

What The Return Of Patrick Stewart & Ian McKellen Mean For Avengers: Doomsday

Since Professor X and Magneto are part oftheAvengers: Doomsdaycast,it showcases how Marvel Studios is going all in for the nextAvengersinstallments by utilizing theX-Menat the same time. The Multiverse Saga is likely going to be the last time that many of these established Marvel actors get to play their characters, especially those who came from the Fox-Marvel era. That is whyAvengers: Doomsdayis a perfect opportunity to honor theX-Menfilms that helped pave the way for the comic book movie genre.

Since the MCU is also getting ready for its ownX-Menreboot,having the iconic actors who brought Magneto and Professor X to life for the first time on the big screen is only fitting, especially asAvengers: Doomsdayis a battle for the entire multiverse. The bigger question, however, is how McKellen and Stewart’s characters will tell how they fit intotheAvengers: Doomsdaystory, especially Xavier, who is dead in at least two universes. But with time travel likely also playing some role inAvengers: Doomsday, anything is possible.
