Even though Beetlejuice explodes after Lydia says his name three times, he’s surely still alive in the Afterlife, sothe dream sequence is fitting with the ghost trying to reach out to Lydia once again.
Another theme inBeetlejuice Beetlejuice, though not explored in depth, is Lydia’s trauma. Her encounters with Beetlejuice have been too wild to not leave some mark on her, and even though she defeats him inBeetlejuice Beetlejuice, there’s still the fear that he will return and get what he wants. It’s unlikely Tim Burton will make a thirdBeetlejuicemovie, but fans can rest assured that Lydia waking up next to Beetlejuice was only a dream and she and Astrid can move on in peace.
