While coal was the main fuel source in the originalFrostpunk,Frostpunk 2takes a different direction when your coal supplies start running low, forcing you to find a more permanent source of fuel: oil. You might think this is one of the nearby resource nodes surrounding New London, but after a quick scan, you’ll see that’s not the case.To find oil, you’ll need to go a little further afield. The exploration system is the same as in the original game, unlike some of thenew systems introduced.
Oil reserves run much more profoundly than coal, so they’ll last longer than the shallow coal deposits in the New London landscape. They’re a pretty consistent source of energy, especially if you’ve got the right upgrades for your Extraction Districts.Unless you speedrun your research, it’s likely that you’ll need oil before you can research too much. This means not only will you need to find one source of oil, but you’ll also need to be able to extract enough to keep your people warm, and that will take some building research. To get started, build a Logistics Hub and explore Frostland.

How To Explore To Find A Permanent Source of Fuel
To begin exploring a new fuel source inFrostpunk 2, you’ll need to build a Logistics Hub in one of the three designated spots around New London. These are marked with a small compass icon and look like any one of the other resource nodes around the city.Frostbreak so that at least five of the tiles surrounding a node marked with a compass are straightforward to build on, then place down your hub to produce Frostland Teams and prepare to set off.
Frostpunk 2: Release Date, Story & Edition Differences
The release date, story details, editions, and prices for Frostpunk 2 have been officially revealed. Here’s everything you need to know.
Exploring itself is pretty simple, and as mentioned previously, you should prioritize exploring westward to find the oil you’re looking for. The Frozen Bay area immediately to your west will provide some workforce to funnel back to New London, but not the oil you’re looking for.Once the Frozen Bay is explored, you may head to one area further west, into the Desolate Coast. Here, you’ll find the Old Dreadnought and strike black gold.

Before settling in the Old Dreadnaught, you’ll need to research an Automated or Vanguard Logistics bay to have enough Frostland Teams to settle.
How To Gain A Consistent Supply Of Oil For New London
Balance The Needs Of New London With Those Of The Old Dreadnought
Now that you’ve broken ground at the Old Dreadnought inFrostpunk 2, the first thing you need to do to crack into the oil supply here is get Frostbreaking.Once the area around the oil nodes is broken out, you can turn on the Old Dreadnought’s generator and funnel the oil supply back to New London.
In the supply screen, you’ll see the need/surplus of each good each location produces and needs. To keep both locations happy, you’ll need to use the oil from the Old Dreadnought and the food and other supplies from New London.

This part of the game and any settlements you place after are a balancing act. It’s best tomaximize the oil output from the Old Dreadnought as early as possible by building up your oil reserves and using Fuel Stockpile Hubs to hold any surplus you might be producing.
This will allow you to better prepare for the Whiteout and other unexpected disasters that might threaten your new city.Frostpunk 2is equally intense as the original game, so ensure you’re watching both populations to stave off disaster.

Increase Productivity With New Buildings And Research
To increase your fuel output, once you’ve got Extraction Districts on all three oil deposits at the Old Dreadnought, you’ll want to research one or two Buildings that you can place in the Districts to increase their output. The Research Tree has a “Pumpjacks” node under the Heating section.
This node will give you a few options to increase your oil extraction rate and volume. Research one or two of those options, then place whichever buildings you choose in your Extraction Districts.
Remember that researching certain things always comes with a price. The four factions inFrostpunk 2play a significant role in the sentiment and trust of your city, sobalancing their wants and needs should always be a factor in your decisions.
If you’re unsure how each works or how to appease them, check outGaming Teacher’s thorough guide on YouTube. One way or another, you’re able to’t make everyone happy, but you can at least make everyone warm. Do your research, expanding districts and researching new and improved ways to extract oil, and you should have a good supply of fuel for both of your settlements inFrostpunk 2.
