TheMCUfandom is still reeling from theAvengers: Doomsdaylive stream aired by Marvel on Wednesday, and I’ve only just realized that it fits perfectly with an 8-year-old Chris Evans cameo. Evans was not among theactors announced to star inAvengers: Doomsday, of which there were 27 by the timethe surprise MCU streamdrew to a close. This is despite his fellow Avengers founders and “Big Three” title-holders, Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr., bookending the announcement. Still, there’s a chance we could be in for more Marvel movie legends being revealed down the line.

Chris Evans was last seen in the MCUlast year, though he was portraying a variant of his first Marvel movie character, Johnny Storm, inDeadpool & Wolverine. His last appearance as Steve Rogers was inAvengers: Endgame, despite hopes that he would reprise the role inCaptain America: Brave New World. While this all raises concerns that Chris Evans is officially done with the MCU, I can at least find solace in the fact that theAvengers: Doomsdaystart-of-production announcement paid tribute to the legendary MCU actor in another obscure but hilarious way.

Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday Live Stream Lasted Five And A Half Hours

The Length Of The Stream Did Not Land Well With Some

Marvel Studios made a bold move with itsAvengers: Doomsdaylive stream. In a stark departure from the comparable video released by Marvel forAvengers: Infinity War, theAvengers: Doomsdaylive stream aired over five and a half hours, with its content comprising nothing more than a slow procession of names due to star in the climactic Multiverse Saga movie. The result could easily be seen as a success, asAvengers: Doomsdaydominated social media for the whole day as people discussed the names that appeared and the names that could appear while deliveringAvengers: Doomsdaymemes aplenty.

Not everybody appreciated Marvel’s slow-burner and minimalistic approach to announcing the cast.

Still, the reaction to the concept was mixed. Not everybody appreciated Marvel’s slow-burner and minimalistic approach to announcing the cast. Unlike the minutes-long video forAvengers: Infinity War,theAvengers: Doomsdaylive stream made some feel captive, unwilling or unable to focus on anything else for fear of missing out on a particularly large announcement. It is fair to say that Marvel capitalized on this by keeping the biggest announcements like Ian McKellen and Alan Cumming until the very end, and ultimately, there may be some who find it hard to reconcile the sluggish reveal with the pay-off.

Marvel’s Live Stream Was A Perfect Callback To A Chris Evans' MCU Cameo

Cap Delivers A Lesson About Patience In Spider-Man: Homecoming

This sentiment evokes a hilarious Captain America scene. InSpider-Man: Homecoming, Steve Rogers cameos in a recording played to high school students, regaling them with life lessons as one of America’s foremost role models and authority figures. TheSpider-Man: Homecomingpost-credits scenethen delivers one final word from Steve Rogers as he appears to the audience in full-screen, delivering a life lesson about howpatience is a virtue, but it can often feel as though the pay-off wasn’t worth the wait, leading you to wonder why you waited in the first place. His full quote is as follows:

“Hi, I’m Captain America, here to talk to you about one of the most valuable traits a soldier or student can have: patience. Sometimes, patience is the key to victory. Sometimes, it leads to very little, and it seems like it’s not worth it…and you wonder why you waited so long for something so disappointing.”

Every MCU Post-Credits Scene, Ranked

The MCU is known for its famous post-credits scenes, but which ones are the most memorable and, more importantly, which ones are game-changers?

Cap’s words of wisdom may ring particularly true for some of those who sat through the entire five-and-a-half hoursand felt dissatisfied by the results. After all, anybody who missed the live stream could easily read up on the information after the fact, especially if they weren’t privy to the online hype or hyped themselves by the reveals as they happened. Still, like Cap’s cameo inSpider-Man: Homecoming, I feel that while the content may have been controversial, it was valuable in another sense. For Cap, it was hilarity. ForAvengers: Doomsday, speculation is now running rampant.

Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday Live Stream Should’ve Included Chris Evans

Chris Evans Deserves To Be A Part Of Avengers: Doomsday

Some of the biggestquestions raised by theAvengers: Doomsdaylive streamsurround absent names that many expected to see included. Among the biggest of these was Chris Evans himself. As I mentioned, Evans is one of the Big Three who personified the Infinity Saga, andit feels particularly odd to see his name excluded while Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr. sit at the start and end of the stream, respectively. Chris Evans deserves to be a part ofAvengers: Doomsdayto help bring everything full circle, though his insistence that he has retired is worrying.

Chris Evans recently responded to reports that he would be starring inAvengers: Doomsdayby insisting he is “Happily retired.”

Nevertheless, we’ve seen this kind of thing before, with Andrew Garfield repeatedly insisting that he wasn’t a part ofSpider-Man: No Way Homebefore the movie outed his deceit. Following reports that Chris Evans will be a part ofAvengers: Doomsday, his refutations be damned, I’m inclined to believe that Chris Evans is following suit. Furthermore, there is reason to believe that Marvel isn’t donewith theAvengers: Doomsdaycast announcements just yet - and to sit Chris Evans at the end of the next reveal like RDJ in the first would feel particularly satisfying.
