Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Invincible season 3, episodes 1-7.Invincibleis no stranger to making jokes even during its high-stakes action, but season 3 just continued a recurring gag that I’m still not sure anyone understands. Despite the Invincible War being one of the show’s most dramatic arcs yet, episode 7 still found time to dig up an ongoing joke that has been present since the first season. AfterInvincibleseason 3 delivered the show’s best title card gagduring Powerplex’s emotional rant, it became clear how committed the writers were to using comedy in the face of tragedy, which made its latest joke all the more appropriate.

In addition to the title card bit,Invinciblealso brought back its narrator from season 2 as well as one of its frequently used joke villains, the Elephant, proving it has plenty of great gags to constantly keep the audience entertained. However, by far its most bizarre one is Ka-Hor’s frequent appearances. After debuting in season 1,Invincible’s mummy emerged from his tomb again in season 2, suggesting he could potentially have some sort of role going forward. Now, the show has brought him back once more, and his importance to the series is less clear than ever before.

Ka-Hor Returns In Invincible Season 3, But Still Isn’t Free

The Mysterious Villain Nearly Found A New Host Only To Be Easily Foiled

Ka-Hor was last seen in season 2’s finale after his tomb collapsed, but season 3 finally brought him back, and he’s still not free. His debut in season 1 indicated the ancient figure had a sinister past, but despite using the adventurer who resurrected him as a host, he remained stuck inside the tomb. In season 2, Riley and Jane went looking for Jane’s father - the adventurer from season 1 - but despite the mummy waking once again, he refused to possess either woman asKa-Hor claimed that he could only inhabit a living male to escape the tomb.

Finally, season 3 saw him escape momentarily, as he attempted to inhabit an evil Invincible variant, only to be easily shrugged off in seconds. As a result, the mummy had to scramble back inside the tomb as he couldn’t survive outside it without a host, leading to him crawling right back to where he started the series. The idea of Ka-Hor taking control of anevil Mark Grayson variant inInvinciblewould have been an interesting twist, but instead, his future remains a mystery while Riley and Jane escape, creating more questions than answers about where his story will go.

Invincible’s Ka-Hor Scenes Have Involved Some Major Actors

Clancy Brown, Ella Purnell & Chloe Bennett Have All Been Prominent Parts Of The Ka-Hor Gag

So far, the Ka-Hor side story has felt like a fun gag exclusive to the animated show, but it has surprisingly featured some major actors.Alongside voicing Jane’s dad, Clancy Brown plays the role of Ka-Hor, who is a massive name to use for such a minor role. Fortunately, it’s not his only part in the show, as Brown has also played General Kregg and Damien Darkblood, showing his commitment to the project. Still, he is a bold choice to be involved in a seemingly inconsequential recurring gag, and he’s not the only star to feature in the Ka-Hor storyline.

Invincible Repeats A Great Joke From Season 2 & It’s Even Funnier The Second Time

Invincible’s humor is one of the show’s strongest aspects, and the continuation of a season 2 gag was even more effective the second time around.

Ella Purnell appeared as Jane inInvincibleseason 2shortly before starring in her hitFalloutrole, and while Purnell didn’t feature in season 3’s Ka-Hor gag, Jane appears to be alive, meaning the actress could still return. Likewise, Chloe Bennett played Riley in season 2 and reprised the role during “What Have I Done?”, adding yet another major name to these unpredictable scenes. Given there is no source material to reference, it’s unclear whatInvinciblehas in store for Ka-Hor next, but using such popular actors for this story indicates it’s either something extremely big or a red herring.

Will Invincible’s Ka-Hor Joke Ever Actually Pay Off?

The Long-Running Joke Isn’t Part Of The Comics

After three seasons, I’m still none the wiser about what Ka-Hor’s presence really means forInvincible, making me question if the gag will ever pay off. The show seems to be having plenty of fun using this mysterious figure to provide some comedy and introduce a few major actors to theInvincibleuniverse, but it’s far from clear where the story is going. At first,it seemed like Ka-Hor would be a menacing villain despite not being a part of the comic series, but the more comic relief he provides, the harder it is to take him seriously.

Therefore, it seems more likely that he will continue appearing each season as a fun gag for viewers to enjoy, but what the payoff will be is hard to determine. Maybe the show will actually shift the focus onto Riley and Jane, giving them a unique involvement inInvincible’s story, or perhaps Ka-Hor will be stopped for good in the silliest way imaginable. Either way, the ongoing joke is easily one of the most confusing aspects of Prime Video’s hit series, but I’m curious to see where the Ka-Hor plot goes, and hopefully, the show continues bringing him back.
