The seven-year wait forKingdom Come: Deliverance2is nearly over, and the early previews of the sequel say that Warhorse Studios has developed one of themust-play RPGs in 2025. The game follows on from the events of the first, taking Henry and Hans Capon to the large medieval city of Kuttenberg while war rages on in the region.

With a familiar cast returning,Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2is set to make big changes and improvements from the first game. Henry has grown a lot since players were first introduced to him, but he will still have toimprove in skills like alchemyand using his weapons. The early grind should be more exciting this time around, as Henry will have access to a greater range of weapons and armor. As the story moves through the years, those weapons will also become more technologically advanced and powerful.

Crossbows Look Like The Underrated Gem Of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

Henry Can Deal Some Serious Damage From Afar

InKingdom Come: Deliverance, bows were a useful tool. They were important for hunting to get free food and complete quests, and players could thin out the numbers in enemy camps from afar with well-placed arrows. However, when an enemy gets close or has plate armor, bows become useless.Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2can’t repeat this, or range-based skills will be ignored.

Assassin’s Creed & Other Games That Are Wonderful History Lessons

Many games tell stories of complete fantasy, but these historically educational titles prove that authenticity and fun can go hand in hand.

Enter the crossbow, which looks to be a powerful addition to Henry’s arsenal. There are three types of crossbows inKingdom Come: Deliverance 2, according to a YouTube Short fromWarhorse Studios, and the hardest part of using them will be when Henry needs to reload. When a bolt is ready to go, it can do a lot of damage at any range, and some will be powerful enough to pierce plate armor.

Another advantage of crossbows is that they require almost no trainingfor someone to use them. In the first game, Henry isn’t good with a bow until he reaches level five, his aim is shaky, and he must wear vambraces or other arm armor to not hurt himself when loosing an arrow. Crossbows don’t have that problem, so Henry will be able to use the basic crossbows early on in the game and be much more deadly from a distance than he could at the start ofKingdom Come: Deliverance.

Things Can Backfire

The addition of firearms inKingdom Come: Deliverance 2is exciting, but players should temper their expectations with these very early handheld explosives. The new boomsticks will undoubtedly deal massive damage to whoever finds themselves at the end of a barrel, but the unrefined design of 15th-century guns comes with its own downsides for the person holding them.

The biggest problem a boomstick poses for Henry is that it can backfire and explode in his face. Not only will Henry take some damage from his weapon, buthe’ll be left essentially unarmed against whomever he was shooting. Early medieval firearms also required a lot of maintenance, so Henry needs to use his blacksmithing skills to keep his boomstick in good condition to stop it from jamming or backfiring.

Furthermore, reloading a boomstick is not quick, so players must quickly swap to more reliable weapons if they miss their shot or when facing multiple enemies. These new weapons won’t be cheap, either, so if Henry wants to add one to his repertoire, he’s going to need a lot of money or will have to find one on the battlefield.

How New Weapons Can Add More Depth To Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

Kingdom Come: Deliverance Was Too Sword-Focused

The realistic combat ofKingdom Come: Deliverancewas rewarding. Henry had to grow stronger and learn new combat skills to wield new weapons while his encounters grew more deadly. However, the original game was very sword-focused, and most of the time Henry was always better off using a longsword or shortswordand shield. Blunt weapons like maces played a role against heavily armored opponents but had just three learnable perks, and powerful polearms and spears could only be picked up from defeated enemies and couldn’t be held in the inventory.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance2will fulfill its promiseof giving players more weapons to master. Henry will have access to more melee weapons that aren’t swords and with more skills and moves to learn for them. This, with the addition of crossbows and boomsticks, will give players more options in how they want to build Henry and in how they approach missions.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Preview - Already A Must-Play Action RPG

I was recently invited to a press event in Kuttenberg, where I had the opportunity to experience 4 hours of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 hands-on.

In the first game, the best way to take out a camp of bandits was to pick off a few lightly armored enemies with a bow, then try and isolate the remaining enemies into one-versus-one fights. Now with crossbows and boomsticks, Henry can be a bit more reckless. Having both weapons loaded can theoretically allow for two quick insta-kills on enemies, then he can swap back to one of the new hammers to deal serious blunt damage to any remaining enemies that have heavy armor inKingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
