Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn Explained & How She’s Different
Lady Gaga’s portrayal of Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux differs from previous iterations, although the character’s core tenets persist.
Despite the fact that the album was originally slated to be released in February,Gaga has confirmed thatMAYHEMwill arrive on March 7. This announcement timeline fits with what Gaga has previously utilized, especially in recent years. In the month preceding the release ofChromatica, Gaga revealed the album title and track list. The release date was one of the last pieces of information she divulged, announcing the release date only 22 days ahead of the drop. She’s now done so just over a month in advance, though much of the 14-song tracklist remains a mystery.

Although Gaga has created more than seven album-length projects, they have been collaborations or projects that she does not consider to be an official Lady Gaga album. This is why the project was originally referred to as LG7 and not LG8. The albums included in Gaga’s current six album count are:The Fame,The Fame Monster,Born This Way,ARTPOP,Joanne, andChromatica.
What To Expect Lady Gaga’s MAYHEM To Sound Like
The New Album Will Be Intense
Lady Gaga is known for bringing a unique and singular vision to every album she releases. She has played with the limits of genre and pulls influences from house music, country, jazz, and metal to create pop that stands out from the crowd. AlthoughGaga has not expanded very extensively into the soundshe is attempting to achieve withMAYHEM, there are some clues to work with.
Something I’m definitely exploring right now is sort of the art of intensity.

At a Q&A following a screening of theChromatica Ballconcert movie (viaTHR), Gaga shared thatthis album isheavily inspired by the intensity and fire that she found within herselfwhile performing her all stadiumChromaticatour. In this album, the singer will be confronting pain and fearsthat she finally feels comfortable facing. She shared in herVogueinterview that the album takes listeners on a journey through painful feelings and inner-darkness that ultimately ends in a happier place. Gaga is not shying away from difficult themes and feels that is what made the music shine through.
The singer has described it as a sort of amalgamation of genres, describing the way the music leaps from genre to genre as “almost corrupt.” However,Gaga did say that this album would be a pop album. She explained toVoguethat her fiancé, Michael Polansky, encouraged her to make a new pop album after witnessing the passion and spark he saw in her on theChromaticatour. Although she wants to celebrate all the musicians and inspirations that have come before her with this new album, pop will serve as a home base to create a cohesive sound.

What Songs Have Been Released
The first taste of the album the Monsters received was the single “Disease,“a dark-pop song that perfectly illustrates the inner turmoil Gaga experiences. The nearly 5 minute track is a duel of light piano keys and angelic backing vocals against deep punchy 808 synth bass, raspy rock-inspired vocal delivery, and all-consuming pulsing synths. The singer shared withVoguethatthe raw lyrics depict Gaga’s struggle to confront her fears and inner demons. “Disease” encompasses everything the artist has promised forMAYHEM: intensity, honesty, multi-genre influence, and boundary-breaking pop.
The music video, released four days after the single, depicts the singer at war with herselfin many different ways: walking on her own back, chasing herself down in a car, and wrestling in the street. These conflicts often occur in broad daylight and on residential streets. The pressures of struggling in the spotlight are evident in these scenes, as no one intervenes to save Gaga from herself. This video truly displays Gaga’s continued dedication to visual expression in tandem with her musical projects.

After the release of the music video,Gaga released another version of the single. Her guitar heavy live performance, “Disease (The Poison Live),” highlighted the vulnerability in the lyricism. Stripping back the song removes all facades of superiority in the lyrics “If you were a sinner, I could make you believe,” and shows their true nature. Gaga’s chorus is a voice she is fighting against in her head rather than a proclamation of control.MAYHEMis promised to be an album of facing difficult subjects head on and there are likely many more confessional tracks to come.
The pre-save links forMAYHEMalso reveal that Gaga’s collaboration with Bruno Mars, “Die With A Smile,” will be included on the album as the closing track.
