TheupcomingUltimate Wolverinewill be set in the mutant state of Eurasia, which is under the rule of Colossus, Magik, and Omega Red. Here, Logan has been reimagined as the Winter Soldier, having been abducted by Directorate X and conditioned into being the perfect weapon for the regime, sent to kill the enemies of the Rasputins. Specifically,the Winter Soldier will be sent against the Opposition,a group of mutants within Eurasia who oppose the rule of the Rasputins. Notably, iconicX-Mencharacters appear to be a part of the Opposition, such as Nightcrawler, Mystique, and now Kitty Pryde and Gambit.
The duo may recognize who Logan is underneath the mask, possibly giving answers to his already mysterious past within the Ultimate Universe.

The most intriguing thing about this debut iswhat it could mean for Logan’s past and future. With it being possible for Kitty and Gambit to recognize him, Logan very well could have been an agent of the Opposition before being captured by Directorate X and turned into their Winter Soldier, which the prelude toUltimate Wolverinealready implies. And given the mainstream version of Logan’s meaningful friendships with his versions of Kitty Pryde and Gambit, the idea of them bringing Logan out of his conditioning as the Winter Soldier isn’t out of the realm of possibility either.

After a huge last-page shock death, Marvel have revealed that not everything was as it seemed, undoing their biggest death of the entire year.
But there is also the chance of Kitty or Gambit meeting an untimely demise in their debut issue, killed by Logan himself. With Logan not being fully in control of his actions, as well as the Ultimate Universe being a different continuity, then either character could die at the hands of the Winter Soldier.
