Being one of the X-Men’s most powerful mutants doesn’t makeStorminvincible, even if she is god-tier. In the second issue of her upcoming solo series, Ororo Munroe is placed in a truly nightmarish scenario for mutants and humans alike -and it’s one that just might kill her.
Set inthe X-Men’s current “From the Ashes” era, Marvel’s newStormseries will challenge Ororo in ways that haven’t been seen before. Those words are definitely reflected in the cover for November’sStorm#2 by Murewa Ayodele and Lucas Werneck.Storm’s fear is palpable in her eyesin this stunning yet disturbing art, drawn by Mateus Manhanini, as she is trapped in an invisible coffin. Her prison also contains snakes, spiders, rising water, and mysterious hands looking to pull her under.

Storm is dying. An unknown form of radiation poisoning from the Oklahoma incident has turned her cells into ticking time bombs. As her final hours count down, will she find a cure for her illness at Night Nurse’s new super-hero hospital, or will it require enchantments from Doctor Voodoo to save her life?
This would be enough to devastate anyone, but fans will remember thatStorm suffers from severe claustrophobia - a fear of enclosed spaces - making this all the more horrific.

Marvel: 50 Most Powerful Mutants, Ranked Weakest To Strongest
Marvel’s mutants can reach extreme levels of power, but we’re counting down the most powerful X-Men of all time. The results might surprise you.
Storm’s Mutant Powers Can’t Make Her Immortal
In Storm’s very first appearance, she was being worshiped as a goddess for her mastery over the skies.Since then, she has always been classified as anOmega-level mutantfor her awesome power. However, her new solo series looks to show the cracks in that power. WhileStorm#1 isn’t coming out until October, we don’t know precisely what happened to her in Oklahoma, but the summary for that issue shows her dealing with a nuclear meltdown. It’s possible that she tries to take on more than she can handle, and now has to face the very mortal consequences.
The summary reveals two characters Storm will seek out for help, who, despite their scary names, are frequently allies. Night Nurse was introduced in 1961 inLinda Carter, Student Nurse, and although she is human, she has specialized in treating superheroes. Other women have taken on the title since then, but with the same goal of helping heroes. Doctor Voodoo is also a medical professional, albeit in the realm of psychology, who uses voodoo and magic. Given thatthis cover artdelves not only into Storm’s mortality, but also psychological fears, he may be trying to solve two different afflictions at once with her.

InThe New Avengers#53, Doctor Voodoo took over as Sorcerer Supreme from Doctor Strange. An important part of magical proficiency is a medical degree.
Storm Needs to Burn Out So She Can Rise “From the Ashes”
The X-Men’s Krakoan era of safety and independence ended in a war against Orchis, humanity, and some of their old allies. However, time and again, mutants have shown that no matter how many times they’re defeated, they’ll rise again and survive. While Storm has compassion and sympathy for her fellow people, her stature as a goddess sometimes keeps her above the fray. This series will find ways that can actually hurt and affect her on a personal level, so that she too can learn to rise above her weaknesses and fears. A phoenix has to burn out before it can rise, andStormhas to hit rock bottom to reach higher heights.
