Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Sebastian Stan opens up on what role he would be down to portray in theDC Universe. 2023 marked the end ofthe DCEU movie timelineto pave the way for James Gunn’s DC Universe, which will be a fresh chance for DC Studios at an interconnected franchise based on iconic heroes and villains. As the MCU is getting further into The Multiverse Saga, some stars have already moved to Gunn’s DC Universe, which will begin in December withCreature Commandos.
During his interview with theHappy, Sad, Confusedpodcast, Stan was asked if he could ever see himself doing a DC role down the line, with Batman being proposed as a character for him. While he doesn’t see himself playing Batman,Stan added that he would love to play one of the Dark Knight’s most iconic villains, stating the following:

I don’t know if Batman’s for me, but never say never. I don’t know. There’s so many characters — I told you, I always had a soft spot for that Riddler, but that one’s been done.
Gunn’s DCU Doesn’t Have The Riddler Yet
While Stan referenced Riddler as a role that has already been done,it was a reference to Paul Dano’s version inThe Batmanuniverse, which is not part ofGunn’s DC Universe, but rather an Elseworlds franchise instead. However, while Riddler may already be occupied in that world, no one has been cast as Edward Nygma for DC Studios' main continuity. That means that Stan could theoretically be cast as the Riddler down the line while taking part in Gunn’s DC Universe franchise.
Stan was almost up for a different DC role back in the 2010s, as he auditioned fortheGreen Lanternmovie.

As Stan has now been with the MCU since 2011’sCaptain America: The First Avenger,it is crucial to remember that his time as Bucky will, at some point, have to come to an end. If the MCU is also truly heading for a soft reboot afterAvengers: Secret Wars, that could be how Stan finishes his era in the MCU. If he is theoretically no longer attached to the MCU after 2027 but wants to continue in the comic book genre, it would genuinely be fun to see him as part of the DC Universe, even if it ends up being afterChapter 1: “Gods and Monsters.”
Our Take On Sebastian Stan’s Riddler Comments
Stan Is A Great Choice For The Riddler
With someone as talented as Stan, as seen in all of his MCU appearances,he would be a fascinating fit for Riddler in Gunn’s DC Universe. Since they are also rebooting Batman for the DC Universe withThe Brave and The Boldmovie, someone like Riddler is bound to show up in the franchise down the line. Hopefully, Stan will end up being the one to play him in theDC Universewhile also finally getting to play his dream role.
DC Universe
The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
