Summary

Following the confirmation ofDexter: Resurrection, star Michael C. Hall explains howDexter: Original Sinwill improve his sequel show. After the success of Showtime’sDexter, which concluded in 2013, Hall reprised his role as the beloved serial killer inDexter: New Blood, which seemingly wrapped up the character’s story. Now, however, prequelDexter: Original Sinis set to follow a younger version of the character played by Patrick Gibson (though Hall returns as narrator), with Hall also set to return once more with aNew Bloodsequel with the subtitle,Resurrection.

During a recent interview withEW, Hall touches on both upcomingDextershows, revealingOriginal Sinwill actually be beneficial to his return inResurrection. According to the actor,Original Sinwill do some essential work fleshing out his character’s backstory, which will inform his own portrayal of the character moving forward. Check out Hall’s comment below:

Patrick Gibson as Dexter and Christian Slater as Harry Morgan in Dexter: Original Sin

“The scripts they’ve executed are fantastic. I can’t wait, like as a fan, to watch it, and as an actor, to spend time seeing real footage of things that I’ve sort of tried to imagine for myself when I imagine what Dexter’s early days [were like], now I’m going to have this technicolor version of his memories to refer to. And I think it will help inform my experience of whatever comes next in the other series, which I can only speak vaguely about at this point.”

Is There Too Much Dexter On The Horizon?

Original Sin & Resurrection Have The Potential To Feel Like Franchise Overload

TheDexterseason 8 finale was largely considered an unsatisfying conclusion to Morgan’s story, so much so that creator Clyde Phillips returned withNew Bloodin 2021, which seemingly served as a bit of a do-over. TheDexter: New Bloodendingsees Hall’s character apparently die at the hands of his own son and was divisive for its own reasons, but it certainly looked to be the last note in Dexter’s story. Now, however, two new shows are on the horizon, one of which will somehow bebringing Hall’s Dexter back from the dead.

All The Dexter Seasons Ranked From Worst To Best

When the Dexter seasons are ranked from worst to best it always shows a journey of ups and downs, but its one that produced a truly beloved show.

Dexter: Original Sinalready faces its own challenges since it’s recasting familiar and beloved characters like Dexter, Deb, Batista, Masuka, LaGuerta, and Harry Morgan. It’s too early to tell whether these recastings will go over well with audiences, but each of the new actors evidently has a daunting task ahead of them. WithsequelDexter: Resurrectionalso on the horizon, however, there’s a lot of franchise content on the way, andthere’s a potential for it to feel like franchise overload, especially since two finales have thus far served as apparent farewells to Hall’s character.

Dexter: Original Sin’s cast features Christian Slater, Molly Brown, Sarah Michelle Gellar, James Martinez, Christina Milian, and Alex Shimizu.

Ultimately, however, what it will come down to is quality. If bothOriginal SinandResurrectionare high in quality, it probably won’t feel like franchise overload, but if they fail to live up to the earlier seasons of the mothership show’s heyday, then it might end up feeling a little like beating a dead horse. Hopefully, bothDexter: Original SinandDexter: Resurrectionend up revitalizing the franchise rather than further weighing it down.
