Based on the video game of the same name,Assassin’s Creedis a sci-fi adventure that is focuses on a man named Callum Lynch who explores the memories of his ancestor to gain the skills of a Master Assassin. In addition to Fassbender, the movie features a leading cast including Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and Charlotte Rampling. Despite its star-studded cast,Assassin’s Creedgot terrible reviews,scoring a mere 19% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Speaking withEntertainment Weekly, Fassbender reflects onAssassin’s Creed. While the actor did say that he and the team had “a lot of fun” on the set of the film,he admits that the film was not a success. Fassbender notes that the film “didn’t turn out the way [he] hoped it to do.” Still, Fassbender thinksAssassin’s Creedhas such “an interesting universe” that it was worth exploring. Assassin’s Creed didn’t turn out the way I hoped it to do. I think it’s such an interesting universe. The idea of DNA memory, I really believe in that. The idea of free will as a concept. I had a lot of fun doing it. It reminds me of being on the rooftops in Malta, very hot conditions, sweating a lot. We had a lot of fun.
