DC Comics has announced its latest miniseries, which spotlights a deserving character:Black Canary: Best of the Bestby King and Sook arrives in stores on November 27th, 2024. While the new six-issue miniseries isnot part of DC’s All In continuity, it still serves as the perfect place for new readers and old fans to discoverthe classic Black Canary character, her badass moves, and her rivalry with Lady Shiva.

Though she rarely gets to star in her own solo titles,Black Canary is one of the most storied characters in DC history. She is now perhaps best known as a member andleader of the Birds of Prey teamand the longtime love interest of Green Arrow, but the Black Canary mantle dates back to 1947 with the original character to use that name, Dinah Drake. Dinah Lance, meanwhile, debuted in 1983 as a member of the Justice League of America. With her signature Canary Cry sonic power and her deep background in martial arts, even beforeBest of the Best,Black Canary was known as one of DC’s best fighters.
ThoughBlack Canary: Best of the Bestis not part of DC All In continuity, Dinah Lance also stars inBirds of Prey, which will launch a new All In arc inBirds of Prey#14 by Kelly Thompson and Sami Basri, available October 2nd from DC Comics.
Fans of Black Canarywill be thrilled to see Dinah Lance once again starring in her own solo title after her previous series ended in 2016, over eight years ago. And as DC continues to launch and revamp books for its new-reader-friendly All In initiative and other non-affiliated titles like this one, it’s encouraging to see a focus on not only “B-list” characters — thoughBlack Canary has long been considered one of the DCU’s strongest fighters and leaders— but also the publisher’s female characters, who deserve to shine in their own solo titles, even if they only last six issues.

Willow Wilson and Marcio Takara also started as a six-issue miniseries and was eventually expanded into an ongoing series, which, unlikeBlack Canary, will be part of the All In story this fall. Anything could happen forBlack Canary: Best of the Best, and fans can’t count a series expansion out. But one thing is certain: readers can expect to see some of DC’s top brawlers in this miniseries, from Batman to Lady Shiva, and odds are high thatBlack Canaryherself will finally be crowned “best of the best.”
