WARNING: SPOILERS FROMONE PIECECHAPTER #1125
The end ofOne Piece’s Egghead Island arc featured the series’most gruesome character death. However, his many and incredibly vile actions were absolutely deserving of the fate he received. Eiichiro Oda’s long-running adventure epic has introduced dozens of compelling villains, some of which become beloved by fans, but as the story enters the final saga, antagonists so evil have been introduced whose only redeeming quality was the glee of knowing that fans would eventually see them fall.
It took little time for disaster to strike when Luffy’s crew arrived on Egghead Island and met the world’s smartest man, Dr. Vegapunk. They were suddenly stuck in the middle of the World Government’s plot to kill the doctor and steal his technology. The stakes raised to a level that required the Five Elders' attention, and because of several cruel decisions in his past,Saint Saturn met his brutal demisein chapter #1125. It was the first time that one of the seemingly immortal Five Elders was killed, an act that changedOne Pieceforever.

How Saint Saturn, One Of The Five Elders, Died
Saint Saturn and The Other Elders First Appeared InOne PieceManga Chapter #233
Since their earth-shattering appearances,One Piece’s Five Elders have been alluded to as the ultimate leaders of the world who’ve ruled with an iron fist for hundreds of years. It wasn’t much later into the story when it was revealed thatthe Highest Authorities of the World Government served the secret king of the world, Imu, who showed no remorse in committing heinous acts of genocide and even obliterating entire islands filled with innocent civilians. And somehow, chapter #1125 made them even more intimidating.
Saturn’s death proves that the secret ruler of the world empowers the Five Elders with a strange black mist.

The World Government’s hierarchy of power shifted when Imu revealed another of their terrifying powers that easily killed Saint Saturn. After the shocking reveal that Saint Figarland Garling had been promoted to be the new Warrior God of Science and Defense, hundreds of miles away, Saturn began clutching his throat, screaming in his ship cabin still on Egghead Island’s shores. Imu’s voice entered his head with a voice of punishment and retaliation for the Elder’s failure in allowingLuffy, whom Imu perceives as the powerful Joyboy, to escape. What happened next was one ofOne Piece’s least ambiguous deaths yet.
Imu, arguablyOne Piece’s biggest villain, has attained immortality in some form, which has allowed them to rule the world for over 800 years. However, Saturn’s death proves thatthe secret ruler of the world empowers the Five Elders with a strange black mistthat was expelled from the former Warrior God of Science and Defense. Imu’s mist seems to give theElders the power to turn into mythical beasts, regenerate, and live long lives without aging bodies. By Saturn’s example,Imu is capable of stripping that powerfrom those he bestows it upon and giving it to others.

Why Saturn Deserved The Brutal Death He Got
The Celestial Dragons and the Five Elders have previously been connected to many vile events, but the Egghead arc took their reputation for viciousness to the next level. Besides Luffy’s crew and Dr.Vegapunk, the arc also heavily focused on the incredibly tragic tale of Jewelry Bonney and her father,Bartholomew Kuma, whose history may beOne Piece’s saddest. At several points in the former Warlord of the Sea’s life, Saint Saturn caused him unforgivable misery.
The mysterious events of the God Valley incident had Elder Saturn and a very young, recently orphaned slave boy, Kuma, encounter each other for the first time. Then Saturn told the young Buccaneer boy that his people deserved to vanish from the Earth, but he’d do much worse years later. One of Kuma’s closest friends, Ginny, was later abducted and forced to marry a Celestial Dragon against her will and experimented on along with her daughter Bonney. Theexperiments conducted with the twisted science of Saturn resulted in Ginny’s death and infected her daughterwith a fatal disease.

One Piece’s Dr. Vegapunk Is Officially Immortal, & It Hints At One Way The Series' Biggest Villain Is Scarier Than Fans Thought
One Piece’s smartest man figured out a way to live forever, but new hints suggest he may have stolen the idea from the series' most mysterious foe.
Kuma’s life mission became to take care of Bonney, and eventually, he traveled the world in search of a cure for his adopted daughter before the sickness claimed her. He eventually found someone who could help and someone who’d grow into a dear friend, Dr.Vegapunk. However, he was already under the control of the World Government, working under none other than Saint Saturn. After discovering Kuma’s plight,Saturn made a deal that would result in Bonney’s health in exchange for Kuma’s bodyand free will. Choices that destroyed several lives and eventually led to the Five Elder’s most embarrassing defeat.
The blast of Joyboy’s Haki hit the Five Elders and caused those who were summoned to Egghead Island to be sent back to the Celestial Dragon’s home of Mary Geoise.
Both Kuma and Bonney get their revenge with satisfying attacks against the monstrous Saint Saturn after he arrives on Egghead to kill Dr.Vegapunk. However, chapter #1125 revealed another decision from the Elder that led to his defeat: going against orders to destroy the hyper-advanced Iron Giant for his scientific curiosity. The enormous robotic figure turned out to be ancient, sentient, and a solid ally for Joyboy, who gifted the Giant a considerable burst of Haki that was triggered at his chosen time to allow the Straw Hats to escape from Egghead, stun Imu, and todepower the Five Elders.
Saturn’s Demotion Ment A Promotion For Figarland Garling
Author Eiichiro Oda may later focus on the remaining Elders' backstories and terrible misdeeds they’ve committed in the past. Still, Saturn’s actions explained throughout the Egghead arc described easily one of the most vile characters so far who’d toyed with the lives of good people and murdered countless more. The former Elder’s involvement with Ginny, Bonney, Kuma, and the Iron Giant Emet is directly tied to Luffy’s escape andDr.Vegapunk leaking incriminating informationabout the World Government to the masses. However, Imu and the remaining Elders are likely preparing to cause even more misery beforeOne Piece’s conclusion.
