Until Dawnwasone of the biggest horror hits of the lastgeneration, and it sounds like there might finally be a proper follow-up to the game. Originally released in 2015 for the PlayStation 4,Until Dawntakes a teen horror movie approach survival, making every choice matter when it comes to keeping a group of eight characters alive. The game just came back to life as a remake available on PS5 and PC, with a film adaptation also in the works.
As leaked byNick Bakeron Twitter and reported byComicBook.com,first-party PlayStation studio Firesprite is allegedly working on anUntil Dawnsequel. The update was spurred by the release of theUntil Dawnremake, which features new ending material that implied a sequel would be coming.

Firesprite, previously responsible for the survival horror VR gameThe Persistence, was already known to be recruiting for a narrative horror title. The studio would be taking the reins for the first time, as the originalUntil Dawnwas made by Supermassive Games, and Ballistic Moon, which features some former Supermassive developers, took charge of the remake.
What Until Dawn 2 Would Mean For The Franchise
This Might Not Be The End Either
An officialUntil Dawn 2wouldn’t be the firstUntil Dawnfollow-up in any form, as Supermassive’s 2022horror gameThe Quarryacted as something of a spiritual successor. The game’s new ending content, however, implies thatUntil Dawn 2will follow some of the same characters as the original game, re-opening a story that was generally thought to be closed for the past nine years.
Everything The Quarry Does Better Than Until Dawn
The Quarry improved on the negatives of Until Dawn while keeping its best qualities, producing a grander story with more relatable characters.
Considering the amount ofUntil Dawnactivity happening at the moment, Sony seems to be positioning thestandout modern horror IPas one of its core franchises in the future. IfUntil Dawn 2releases at some point in the future and manages to find a strong reception, it might very well be the first of several more.

Our Take On The Rumored Until Dawn Sequel
Some Apprehension Could Be Wise
It’s surprising that anUntil Dawnsequel might be in different hands than the remake was, and bouncing between developers onstory-driven game franchisesdoesn’t inspire confidence. There’s still an opportunity to recapture some of the game’s strong atmosphere, however, something thatThe Quarrydidn’t necessarily accomplish. Time will tell whether a sequel can live up toUntil Dawn, but it’s interesting to hear that it’s on the table regardless.
