Trainers first need to obtain Evolution Items, which come from different sources and tend to have low drop rates. Additionally, Pokémon that use Evolution Items to evolve need additional Candy for their transformations.

There are currently twelve Evolution Items available inPokémon GO.Some are used for just one evolutionary line, while others can be used for many different Pokémon.

The Glacial Lure or Magnetic Lure Modules to evolve Pokémon must be inserted into a Pokéstop.Trainers near a Pokéstop with a Lure Module can then access the evolutions listed above.Lure Modules will also attract specific types of Pokémon for the next 30 minutes after activated.

To make a Golden Pokéstop, Trainers must use Golden Lure Modules. These are obtained byconnectingPokémon GOtoPokémon Scarlet and Violetand sending Postcards between the two games.
As such, most Evolution Items inPokémon GOare rare drops or, in the case of Lure Modules, expensive purchases from the Shop. For Gimmighoul and Gholdengo specifically, Trainers must connect toPokémon Scarlet and Violeton the Nintendo Switch. As such, while evolving some Pokémon only requires Candy, evolving other Pokémon species requires luck and potentially even some additional purchases.
