What The Presence Teaser Means For The Film
The Ghost POV Will Be A Major Genre Shake-up
Ghost-in-the-housesupernatural horror moviesalmost always unfold from the victims' points of view. Not showing the demon or ghost perspective is often where the scares come from, as audiences are just as surprised by doors slamming or pans falling as the characters. This also contributes to a general sense of unease that is crucial for these types of films.
Steven Soderbergh’s 10 Best Movies, According To Letterboxd
Between Ocean’s Eleven and King of the Hill, Soderbergh is a master of both Hollywood movies and independent cinema, and he has made several classics.
Presenceis turning this on its head and will seemingly be letting audiences in on what the titular ghostly presence is up to. While taking this approach is a risk that could remove some of the mystery surrounding the ghostly being, thePresencereviewsout of the film’s Sundance premiere earlier this year were generally very positive.Much of the praise was aimed at the film’s technical achievements and the ways in which it communicates a ghostly POV, but Koepp’s script is also said to ensure that the emotional undercurrents of the story are never lost.

Koepp wrote the scripts for classic films likeJurassic Park(1993),Mission: Impossible(1996), andSpider-Man(2002). He’s also written the script for theupcomingJurassic World Rebirth(2026).
Our Take On The Presence Teaser Trailer
Soderbergh’s New Horror Technique Could Be More Than A Gimmick
The latest trailer doesn’t reveal much, but it does serve as a taste of the type of filmmaking that audiences can expect withPresence. The previous teaser featured the same ominous, floating camera, and this is seemingly how the entire film will be presented. In lesser hands, telling a story from the ghost’s point of view could end up feeling like a gimmick. With movies likeTraffic(2000),Ocean’s Eleven(2001),Contagian(2011), andLogan Lucky(2017), however, Soderbergh has proven that he might just be the perfect filmmaker to pull this unique premise off.
