TheRockyprequel gets a new update from Sylvester Stallone, who shares a progress update and story tease. After the release of the first movie back in 1976, Stallone’s Rocky Balboa would return for five sequels as well as twoCreedspinoff movies. In 2019, Stallone revealed that would further be expanding the franchise with aRockyprequel TV show, though few updates on the project have emerged since.
During a recent interview with theInspire Mepodcast,Stallone shares an update on theRockyprequel, revealing that he’s now written “a few pages.“As for what viewers can expect from the story, the actor teases some similarities to Disney’sLady and the Trampin terms of the story between Rocky and Adrian, Talia Shire’s love interest character from the original movie. Check out Stallone’s comment below:

“The Rocky prequel is very near and dear to my heart. I wrote a few pages of it and it just seems to write itself. Seeing Adrian at 15, Rocky at 17, Paulie moving to a new neighborhood. Rocky is your bad boy. It’s almost like Lady and the Tramp, but with real people. It’s going to be wonderful.”

The Sylvester Stallone Series Faces Another Big Challenge
It’s been five years since the first mention of theRockyprequel show, and Stallone has seemingly only just put ink on the page recently. It’s not clear why development of the show has been so slow-going, but it’s possible that Stallone and the other key creatives involved were struggling to come up with a powerful enough story to justify going back to that same well. With Stallone having now gotten started on the writing, things could start moving faster, but the show is likely still quite a ways away.
With the writing having only just started, theRockyprequel show almost definitely won’t be going to camera in 2024.It’s possible that fans can expect a 2025 production start, but this would depend on how the scripts turn out. Assuming the writing goes well, theRockyprequel show could premiere at some point in 2026. A prequel show isn’t the only way the franchise will live on, however, as it’s been confirmed thatCreed 4is in developmentafter the success of the third film in 2023.

Creed 3, which stars Michael B. Jordan in the title role, has an impressive 88% onRotten Tomatoesand grossed $276 million worldwide.
While theCreedsub-franchise has proven that it can succeed withoutStallone’s Rocky Balboa, the upcoming prequel will have the challenging task of recasting this iconic character. Recasting a famous actor’s part is always a challenge, but this task is made even more daunting by the fact that audiences have now gotten to know and love Stallone’s specific take on the character across a full eight movies. Many questions remain about theRockyprequel show, but Stallone having actually started writing is a positive sign that the show is taking steps forward.
