Summary

AlthoughAzraellooks like a fun showcase for star Samara Weaving, its trailer has just reminded me how much I want to see a follow-up to 2019’sReady Or Not. Samara Weaving has an impressive career, with some of the star’s biggest hits being horror movies.Ash Vs Evil Deadgave Weavingan early minor role, but it was 2017’sThe Babysitterthat made her a star. Weaving dominated that horror-comedy as the titular babysitter, a murderous monster who managed to be both funny and appealing while also convincing as a demonic villain.

Since then, Weaving has parlayed her success into supporting roles inBabylon,Scream VI, andBill & Ted Face The Music. However, her most critically acclaimed movie was 2019’sReady Or Not. A satirical horror thriller,Ready Or Notsaw Weaving star as a bride who is informed on her wedding night that she will only become part of her husband’s family if she can escape their clutches throughout her long wedding night. Otherwise, the amoral rich brood plans to sacrifice her to the devil.Ready Or Not’s killer endingcemented Weaving’s status as an underrated contemporary scream queen.

A cameo inScream VIsaw Weaving return to the world of horror, but2024’s upcomingAzraelmarks Weaving’s first supernatural horror movie since 2020’sThe Babysitter: Killer Queen. WhileAzrael’s trailer looks promising, it does make me wish that there was anynews ofReady Or Not 2.

Ready Or Notleft Weaving’s character in a perfect position to return in a potential sequel, and the years since have seen the movie only grow in acclaim and popularity.Ready Or Not’s prescient satire of class politics was copied by countless later movies and shows and its directorial duo, Radio Silence, went on to makeScream 2022,Scream VI, and 2024’s hitAbigail. As such, there is no better time forReady Or Not 2’s arrival. Azrael’s trailer even looks likeReady Or Not, as both movies force Weaving’s heroine to contend with unhinged humans and supernatural threats.

Ready Or Not 2 Can Continue Samara Weaving’s Horror Movie Return Trend

Weaving Already Starred In The Horror Sequel The Babysitter: Killer Queen

Since Weaving appeared inThe Babysitter: Killer Queen, there is no reason to think the actor wouldn’t be willing to come back forReady Or Not 2. The sequel would need to focus on a new protagonist, but Weaving’s original heroine could play a role akin to the supporting part that Neve Campbell’s Sidney had inScream 2022. This could turnReady Or Not’s heroine from a memorable heroine into a returning Final Girl in the vein ofHalloween 2018’s Laurie Strode. SinceAzraelproves Weaving is still invested in supernatural horror, I can’t wait forReady Or Not’s follow-up.
