Snoopyis perhaps the most iconic character in the entirePeanutscatalog (even counting Charlie Brown), and a big reason why is that he’s not just one character, but several. Snoopy has no shortage of alter egos inPeanutscanon, which allows him to go on a number of adventures throughout the series, each one reflecting a unique personality. FromSnoopy’s “Joe Cool”to “WWI Flying Ace”, Snoopy wears a number of ‘hats’ inPeanuts, including that of “World Famous Tennis Player”.
World Famous Tennis Player is an alter ego of Snoopy’sthat first appeared in thePeanutscomic strip published on June 03, 2025. In the debut comic, World Famous Tennis Pro walks out onto the court, preparing to show the world his unparalleled tennis skills. At least, he would have, if this World Famous Tennis Player wasn’t terrible at tennis. WhenSnoopy’s opponent served the tennis ball, it zoomed past him, forcing Snoopy to do a backflip from the sheer speed of it.

When he gets back on his feet, World Famous Tennis Player says, “I hate it when they serve hard!”, as if there’s any other proper way to serve the ball in tennis. This first strip alone proves that Snoopy’s ‘Tennis Pro’ alter ego doesn’t exactly live up to his name, as there seems to be quite a few tennis players (pro or otherwise) who can outmatch him - seemingly with a single fast-serve. However, this initial embarrassment doesn’t dampen Snoopy’s undeserved confidence in his tennis skills, as World Famous Tennis Player makes a number of subsequent appearances inPeanuts.
Snoopy’s World Famous Tennis Player has No Shortage of Hilarious Moments in Peanuts
Snoopy Even Finds a Mixed Doubles Partner, Molly Volley
Despite not being very good at tennis in his debut comic strip, the Tennis Pro keeps his head up, and doesn’t let his initial failure stop him from getting back out on the tennis court. And, after years of dedicated training, with a passion for the game that’s second to none, World Famous Tennis Player still isn’t very good. Apparently, no amount of heart can make up for an inherent lack of skill, and every Peanuts comic that features World Famous Tennis Player highlights that unfortunate truth.
However, Snoopy realizes that if he really wants to go-pro, he doesn’t have to do it alone.Peanutseventually introduces World Famous Tennis Player’s mixed doubles partner, Molly Volley, who plays a number of matches alongside Snoopy - much to her continued frustration. Molly Volley takes the game incredibly seriously, and she actually has the skills to back up her passion for the game. While Snoopy certainly has the passion, he sorely lacks the skills, and lets Molly Volley down with every match they play together (in truly hilarious fashion).

The running gag of Snoopy’s Tennis Pro alter ego is that, no matter how many matches he plays, he never gets any better, making his moniker a hilarious misnomer. What makes the ongoing joke continuously funny is Snoopy’s delusional view of his own skill set, especially when it’s revealed what his ultimate goal is. It’d be one thing if Snoopy was bad at tennis, knew he was bad, but just loved the game for its own sake. But, it’s another thing entirely when considering that he actually thinks he’s good enough to accomplish his ultimate goal of playing at Wimbledon.
Does Snoopy’s World Famous Tennis Player Make It to Wimbledon? Somehow, Yes
Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don’t Come Back!)
Based on everything readers have seen from Snoopy’s World Famous Tennis Player, it seems obvious that he’d never make it to Wimbledon (a world-renowned tennis tournament). Snoopy has stated that he hates it when his opponents serve the ball fast, or even return the ball at all during a match - and it’s pretty much guaranteed that any opponent he’d face at Wimbledon would do both. So, there’s no way Snoopy would ever play on a Wimbledon court, right? Wrong.
In the 1980PeanutsmovieBon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don’t Come Back!), Charlie Brown is an exchange student in France, and Snoopy hitches a ride. The two arrive in London before crossing the English Channel, and during that time, Snoopy sneaks off to go play tennis at Wimbledon, effectively living World Famous Tennis Player’s dream. However, just because he played at Wimbledon, doesn’t mean he belonged there, as Snoopy was quickly kicked off the grounds. But, winning at Wimbledon wasn’t World Famous Tennis Player’s dream, merely playing there was enough - and, somehow, Snoopy actually pulled it off.

Interestingly enough, the 1980 animated film wasn’t the first time Snoopy tried to go to Wimbledon. Back in aPeanutscomic strip arc from June 1976, Snoopy takes a train to Kansas City, as that’s where he thinks Wimbledon is. While he obviously doesn’t make it, this story arc does end on a happy note for a different reason: Snoopy reunites with his sister, Belle. The family reunion is enough to distract Snoopy from his dream of playing at Wimbledon, until he’s finally given the chance again inBon Voyage, Charlie Brown (And Don’t Come Back!).
World Famous Tennis Player Might Be Snoopy’s Funniest Alter Ego (for 1 Obvious Reason)
Dogs Famously Love Playing with Tennis Balls, & Snoopy is No Exception
While Snoopy may have a great number of alter egos inPeanutscanon, World Famous Tennis Player might be his funniest one of all time, and that’s because it’s a hilarious take on a dog playing with tennis balls. One would be hard-pressed to find a dog that doesn’t love to play with tennis balls, especially in a game of fetch. However, Snoopy isn’t like normal dogs. Snoopy has always had human characteristics. Therefore, his inherent desire as a dog to play with tennis balls is manifested in a more human-like way, giving life to the World Famous Tennis Player.
10 Funniest Peanuts Comics Where Snoopy Fights Lucy
Both stubborn and bold, Lucy and Snoopy have had their squabbles and outright fist fights, making for some funny and even tense Peanuts comics.
Snoopy’s World Famous Tennis Player may not be the best tennis player in the world (despite actually making it to Wimbledon), but that’s of no consequence next to the alter ego’s true greatest achievement: being a hilarious addition toPeanuts.Peanutsis filled to the brim with show-stealing characters and story arcs in its half a century’s worth of established world-building. But even still,Snoopymanages to consistently hog the spotlight as perhaps the most iconic of them all, and that’s all thanks to his hilarious alter egos, like World Famous Tennis Player.
