Daniel Craig addresses theSpectrescript leak in 2014. The spy movie was the 24th installment in theJames Bondfranchise and the fourthmovie that stars Craigas the titular assassin. Before the film’s release in 2015, an early version of the screenplay surfaced online. The material was one of theitems stolen in a cyberattack targeting Sony Entertainment.
Speaking toVanity Fairabout the security around his upcomingKnives Out 3, Craig reflected on the infamousJames Bondscript leak. While it wasn’t world ending, the actor stressed that “many people were working so hard to put that out,” and it was very disheartening for someone to leak it before the release date. Whilethe said script wasn’t the one they used in production, Craig revealedit contained “lots of ideas” in the film. Check out what he said below:

They kind of have to be. But there is also, again, going back to that: “This is the most important thing in the world” thing. Like, come on, let’s get some reality into this. I don’t want the script to be out there. The last thing on earth I want this to do is the script to be out. ForKnives Out 3,there are people looking for that script—just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean that they’re not out to get you. With Bond, there was a script leaked.
It wasn’t the script we shot, but it was definitely a script that had lots of ideas in what we shot. It’s like, Oh, come on. Again, “the most important thing in the world,” but so many people were working so hard to put that out, to get it out. It was a particularly weird thing to do; like, somebody wants to ruin it for everybody.

What This Means For Spectre

Craig’s comment revealsthe emotional effects on the crew and cast from the leakand how it affects those in the film. Even though a decade has passed, the star still remembers the incident vividly. Having experienced a massive leak like that, it makes sense thatthe actor is “paranoid” aboutKnives Out 3being the next target. While it’s true that a script leak doesn’t have the same weight as a national security threat, it’s disrespectful to those who put their heart and soul into making the project.
