Sonic the Hedgehog 3director Jeff Fowler hints at what teases will be given in the upcoming movie.Sonic the Hedgehog 3is the sequel to 2022’sSonic the Hedgehog 2, which continues to tell a story about the classic Sega character.Sonic the Hedgehog 3features a leading castincluding Ben Schwartz, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, Tika Sumpter, Tom Butler, Alyla Brown, James Marsden, and Jim Carrey. It is set for release just before Christmas, coming out on December 20.
Speaking withEntertainment Weekly, Fowler discusses what potential teases will be at the end ofSonic the Hedgehog 3. According to the director, he and his team have similar conversations as “fan debates online” surrounding what characters the franchise could show next. It’s fun to see the fan debates online about who’s coming up next, who’s going to be teased at the end of the film. We have a lot of the same conversations. We’ve all got our favorites on the filmmaking side, and we’re all making great cases for ‘it should be this one or that one.’ It is fun to keep that anticipation. This movie is no different in terms of teasing new characters.

Giving a glimpse at another character in the universe is a smart, non-committal way to keep viewers engaged in the franchise without giving a complete cliffhanger. It also paves the pathway for future marketing opportunities, ifSonic the Hedgehog 3just shows the face of a new character, it gives them room to announce the casting later, as they did with Reeves.
