The latest news aboutThe Mandalorianproves thatStar Warshas mishandledThe Book of Boba Fett. It’s been officially announced thatThe Mandalorianseason 3 andAhsokaseason 1will be released as special edition, SteelBook 4K UHD Blu-rays. This is no longer a surprising move for Disney+, asAndor,Obi-Wan Kenobi, and seasons 1 and 2 ofThe Mandalorianhave also recently been released as physical media. It’s certainly an encouraging strategy forStar Warsand Disney, but oneMandalorian-era show seems to be missing from the list.
Despite premiering in 2021,The Book of Boba Fettis the onlyMandalorian-related show not to have been released physically. In fairness,Star Wars: The Acolyte’s Blu-ray box set has yet to be announced, though it’s arguably too early for that news.Boba Fett’s exclusion is much more egregious. The Book of Boba Fettmay have had its issues, but deciding not to give it a home media release does a disservice to its story, the cast and crew, theMandalorianfranchise, and evenStar Warsfans who collect physical media.

The Book Of Boba Fett Was A Failure, But It’s Too Important To Ignore
The Book of Boba Fettfailed to do what it set out to. Instead of providing a well-rounded character study of one ofStar Wars’ most iconic legacy characters,it sidelined Boba and becameThe Mandalorianseason 2.5 halfway through. However, this is exactly the problem with Lucasfilm and Disney’s decision not to releaseBoba Fettphysically. Despite its flaws, it is too important toThe Mandalorian’s overarching story. Those who ownThe Mandalorianseasons 1, 2, and soon, 3 on Blu-ray will never ownDin DjarinandGrogu’s full story.
This feels like Lucasfilm is purposefully distancing itself from a show it approved and agreed to. WithoutThe Book of Boba Fett, Grogu and Din’s story would always be incomplete.

Some majorStar Warsmoments take place inThe Book of Boba Fett. Ahsoka Tano and Luke Skywalker’s first scene together, Grogu’s training with Luke, his decision to go back to Din, and their unearned yet heartfelt reunion took place inThe Mandalorian’s first spinoff show. Why shouldn’t it also be released on Blu-ray? Being widely panned is no excuse. This feels like Lucasfilm is purposefully distancing itself from a show it approved and agreed to. WithoutThe Book of Boba Fett, Grogu and Din’s story would always be incomplete.
Will The Book Of Boba Fett Get A Home Release?
The Book of Boba Fett’s home media release should, logically speaking, have been announced whenThe Mandalorianseasons 1 and 2 were put up for pre-order. Aside from Lucasfilm being worried it wouldn’t be financially viable, there’s no reason it shouldn’t have been. To a certain extent, Lucasfilm’s trepidation is understandable – the show was widely criticized, but the company only has itself to blame. It should have treatedThe Book of Boba Fettas its own thing, rather than as a launch pad forThe Mandalorianseason 3.
8 Ways Din Djarin Has Become Star Wars Canon’s Boba Fett Replacement
Boba Fett was the iconic Mandalorian bounty hunter of the original trilogy and Star Wars Legends, but Din Djarin has clearly replaced him in canon.
Hopefully, at some point, Lucasfilm and Disney will see the error of their ways. Perhaps, onceThe Mandalorian & Groguand an as-yet unconfirmed fourth (and likely final) season ofThe Mandalorianhave been released, Disney will decide to produce a box set for the entirety ofThe Mandalorianera, and includeThe Book of Boba Fettfor the first time. The Book of Boba Fettmay not have been what anyone imagined it would be, but it deserves to be treated better than this – for better or worse, it’s a part ofThe Mandalorian’s legacy.
