Summary

Starfield’s main story can take potentially dozens of hours for a new player to complete. Despite this, Bethesda has suggested that the game does not really start until the main quest is finished. Waiting at theend of the storyis a final reward for the player: becoming Starborn. By this point, the player will have already fought many Starborn in their path, so they may wonder what the new role entails.

Becoming Starborn comes with several benefits, but also several drawbacks. The player character will go through major changes to jump universes, andeach of those changes has consequences which will be felt during subsequent runs. Many of these changes reinforce the narrative’s themes, but players would do well to keep them in mind before proceeding through the Unity.

Out of all of the cool features in Starfield, there’s one rare end-game encounter that is one of the coolest and simultaneously severely lacking.

Becoming Starborn Gets Rid Of Most Of Your Starfield Possessions

New Items Will Take Place Of Lost Ones, Except For Weapons

Perhaps the biggest change toStarfieldafter going through the Unity is the loss of the player’s belongings.Everything is left behind in the old universe, including ships, credits, weapons, spacesuits, and everything else the player may have acquired throughout their journey. While these items will all be lost, new ones will take their place. Weapons are an exception to this rule, however, so the player will need to acquire new ones through other means.

The player may not have any of their old ships, like the Razorleaf fromStarfield’s “Mantis” quest, but they will get a new ship, the Starborn Guardian. The Frontier also ends up in the Starborn’s fleet, though how this occurs is never discussed. In addition, the Starborn Astra spacesuit will be automatically equipped. While this suit seems powerful at first glance, it will likely be replaced before long, especially since it takes up the spacesuit, helmet, and pack slots.

The Hunter has a unique spacesuit that cannot be acquired even after killing him.

A special piece of equipment also awaits players who have gone through the Unity ten times. The Hunter has a unique spacesuit that cannot be acquired even after killing him. On the player’s eleventh universe, the Hunter’s spacesuit will replace the old Astra suit. This is a signficantly better piece of armor, but it will still be made obsolete due to its lack of legendary effects.

Becoming Starborn Brings A New Opportunity For Upgrading Powers

Each New Universe Brings 24 More Temples To Upgrade

DuringStarfield’s main quest, the player will unlock their Starborn powers like an antigravity field, unlimited oxygen, and slowing time. Unlocking each power requires the player to run through a repetitive temple puzzle, but only 24 of these temples exist in each universe, one for each power. Going to a new universe means getting 24 more temples to run, andthese temples will upgrade existing powers or unlock ones which were missed in the first universe.

There is also a new opportunity to add or remove traits when jumping to a new universe, allowing the player to gain new benefits and drawbacks.

Jumping to a new universe will also reset all ofStarfield’smissions, which will allow them to be done again for extra experience. While new universes do not typically provide new equipment, higher levels will allow the player to run into more powerful equipmentif they have not already reached a high level by the time they go through the Unity. There Are Narrative Changes In Starfield After Entering The Unity

Skipping The Main Quest, Additional Dialogue, & New Armor Available

Starfield’s main story reveals that there are countless other universes, but many are virtually the same. The Hunter and Emissary play out their drama in each universe so well because they know what will happen before it does. After going through the Unity, the player will be able to benefit from that same foreknowledge. The end result of this is the introduction of many additional dialogue options, which will have the “[Starborn]” tag at the beginning. These will often allow the player to skip quest stages, though they are not the only thing which can be skipped by Starborn.

What Happened To Earth In Starfield?

By the time Starfield takes place in the year 2330, Earth has become uninhabitable, with nothing but a few landmarks left in a vast desert wasteland.

The first objective after going through the Unity is to fly to theLodge in New Atlantis. Doing so will allow the player tointroduce themselves to Constellation again, but it will also restart the main quest, if desired. The player is presented with the choice of skipping the main quest, giving Constellation the task of finding the undiscovered artifacts using the knowledge of their locations from prior universes.

Becoming Starborn also helps to reinforceStarfield’sthemes. Getting the Hunter’s armor after jumping universes ten times symbolizes that the player has become the Hunter, likely going through multiple universes in a search for power. Alternatively, it may be decided that this is the last universe inStarfieldthe Starborn will call home.

Starfield

Bethesda Game Studios presents Starfield - the first original IP from the studio in twenty-five-plus years. Set in the year 2310, the United Colonies and Freestar Collective are observing a shaky truce after a war set 20 years prior. The player will customize their character as a member of a space exploration team called Constellation while navigating The Settled Systems and the conflicts between the warring factions. According to Bethesda, players can explore over 100 systems and 1000 planets to find resources and build their ships, living out their own sci-fi journeys.
