Summary

The male cast ofCheersrecalls skipping work, which resulted in the"worst four hours"of Ted Danson’s life. It has been over three decades since the legendary Boston sitcom wrapped up its run on NBC. While certainparts ofCheersdidn’t age well, it remains a staple in syndication and readily accessible on various streaming platforms. Because of this, the show has been introduced to a new generation of viewers who are also interested in learning about some of the cast stories that happened behind the scenes. Luckily, Danson and Woody Harrelson’s new podcast can cater to that.

In a new clip of Team Coco’sWhere Everybody Knows Your Namepodcast, the hosts are joined by Norm actor George Wendt to share one of theirmost memorable experiences while working onCheers. Watch the video below

In the clip, Danson shares how Harrelson offered him mushrooms during a boat trip withfellowCheersactors, Wendt, Kelsey Grammer, and John Ratzenberger. He calls it “the worst four hours” of his life after they encountered remnants of a storm. Read his story below:

Woody turns to me and goes, ‘Have you ever had mushrooms?’ And I go, ‘No. No, I haven’t.’ And he said, ‘Well, this will be a good time. We have nothing to do. We’ll be out on a boat.’ We hadn’t had breakfast, so I was fairly hungry and ate I think an extraordinary amount of mushrooms, and then I’m thinking, ‘Oh, this is all right.'”

So people not on mushrooms would be seasick pretty much. But I sat there getting more and more and more freaked out and whatever it is — you get stoned or whatever it is on mushrooms — and I look at you, Woody, and you stretched out on a bunk, and I think, ‘Oh, he’s so used to this that he’s just cooling it and relaxing. I am panicking. I’m having trouble breathing. I’ll go up top.’

Will Cheers Ever Have A Revival?

Sam’s Bar Will Remain Closed For The Foreseeable Future

In this day and age of revivals, calls to bring backCheerscontinue to be persistent.Grammer’s Frasier reboot on Paramount+successfully launching and currently waiting to premiere season 2 has further motivated fans of the ’80s workplace comedy to push for its return on the small screen. Unfortunately, Danson and co-creator James Burrows have been clear multiple times that they have no intention of doing any kind of contemporary take on the show. Without their involvement, and even just approval, the chances ofCheersreturning are slim to none.

Despite this, the cast ofCheersremains in contact even after three decades. Just this year, they appeared in a special tribute at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards. The ceremony even recreated Sam’s iconic bar from the underground Boston establishment. Admittedly, the bit was far too brief to satiate any interest in seeing the whole gang back together again. But for what it’s worth, the ensemble normally gathers every couple of years to celebrateCheers. Over the years, they have had multiple reunions, and somehow, they never seem to run out of stories to tell about the show.

For now, theCheers bar will remain closed. This means that even though the franchise lives with the Frasier revival, which is set in Boston, the snooty psychiatrist-turned-Harvard educator cannot visit the pub. However, perhaps Harrelson and Danson can invite Grammer to their podcast instead for their own kind ofCheersreunion.
