What Banshee’s Streaming Success Means For Its Reputation
Why The Series Works So Well
WhenBansheepremiered in 2013, it wasn’t for everyone. It features plenty of sex and violence, and is generally a very visceral and over-the-top experience. After a somewhat lukewarm response to this initial batch of episodes, the show really hit its stride in season 2, and only grew in acclaim with seasons 3 and 4.
Seasons 3 and 4 both have rare 100% scores on Rotten Tomatoes.
Bansheecould affectionately be called “trashy” television, but it found a way to be the best possible version of this. Each season delivered thrilling action sequences, surprising story twists, and some standout performances, with Starr, especially, excelling in his lead role. The rise of streaming has drastically changed the entertainment landscape, and not always for the better, but it’s streaming that has allowedBansheeto rise and reach new audiences almost a decade after it ended, and that’s worth celebrating.
