Summary
Red Dead Redemption 2’s titular anti-hero, Arthur Morgan, has become one of the most beloved protagonists in any video game of recent memory. A gruff exterior and no-nonsense attitude have ingratiated his character to nearly everyone who picks upRDR2for the first time. And while there are plenty of scenes that differ depending on whether theplayer aligns themselves with good or evil, one touching scene stands out among the rest.
Throughout the duration ofRDR2, players have the choice of redeeming Arthur through positive actions or plunging him deeper into his evil ways by taking the more unscrupulous route. This distinction is made clearer when it’s revealed thatArthur is dying of tuberculous, which causes him to reflect more closely on his past decisions. One scene shows a rare moment of vulnerability for Arthur, but it’s also a scene many players may never see.

Arthur Morgan’s Actor Describes Touching Scene With Sister Calderón
Arthur Admits That He’s Scared Of Death
In one rare scene at the end of the quest “The Fine Art of Conversation,” Arthur speaks to Mother Superior Calderón, a nun from Saint-Denis that is encountered in previous side missions. If the right actions are chosen, a scene plays out that displays Arthur’s vulnerability.Sister Calderón asks Arthur what is bothering him, and he reluctantly responds, “I guess I… I’m afraid,“while looking back at the nun with tear-filled eyes. Roger Clark, the actor for Arthur Morgan, recently touched on the scene in an interview on the YouTube channelGamology.
In the interview, Clark said, “One thing that Red Dead 2 does that I don’t believe think I’ve already seen in a Western before, is where we see the main protagonist admit that he’s scared.” Clark continues by saying “I was really grateful for a scene like that, cause we were able to do something that hadn’t really been done in the genre before.”

Sister Calderón is actually more accurately namedMother Superior Calderón and is a returning character and guiding light of moralityin a world that isn’t always the most moral. In the originalRed Dead Redemption, she played a minor role and had a side mission for John Marsten. InRDR2, she’s featured in several different chapters and can first be encountered in Saint-Denis in an initial encounter where a young boy steals her crucifix.
Sister Calderón is also included in theUndead NightmareDLC for the originalRDR— though that DLC is not considered canon.

Most People Won’t Get The Cutscene Where Arthur Admits He’s Scared
It Requires Doing The Right Thing
While the scene in itself is an interesting, rare glimpse into Arthur Morgan’s fear of death, it actuallyrequires some specific steps to achieve. The scene itself comes at the end of “The Fine Art of Conversation,” but in order to initiate it,players must have completed Sister Calderón’s mission, “Of Men and Angels,” previously in the game, as well asmaintain high honor.
To initiate the “Of Men and Angels” quest, players will need to meet Sister Calderón in front of her donation box in Saint-Denis. to even get to this quest, however,it’s also required to complete the stranger missions “Help a Brother Out, and “Brothers and Sisters, One and All.“Those who circumvented the stranger or side missions won’t be able to backtrack to get the special scene once enough progress has been made. The percentage of players who were able to see this scene organically without any sort of modification or commands is probably pretty small.
As a result of the required questlines and the fact that it also requires making the prerequisite decisions to have high honor, it’s more than likely most will never see the scene with the sister. With the amount of time one can take exploring the open fields ofRed Dead Redemption 2, it’s more than possible that the vast majority of players never even knew that this scene existed. It just goes to prove that there’s even more stuff for people to find, even six years after the game’s release.
