Anakin Skywalker’s Force Ghost Can Actually Do Battle!
Wielding A Lightsaber As A Force Ghost
In 2022’sShadow of the Sithby Adam Christopher, Luke Skywalker was studying Sith holocrons and wayfinders years beforeThe Force Awakens.As such, Luke visits Tython and the Jedi seeing-stone first seen inThe Mandalorianseason 2. Meditating on the Sith holocron he’d recently discovered, Luke’s connection to the Force and its amplification by the seeing-stone saw a part of him physically transported to Exegol, the hidden Sith world that had been plaguing his recent visions.
Immediately attacked by nine Sith wraiths devoid of the Force,Luke Skywalker was nearly killed were it not for the arrival of his Anakin’s Force ghost…wielding a lightsaber:
“The wraiths attacked, nine shadow-blades held by shadow-arms cutting down at speed –
And that was when a new light appeared. Not the white flash of lightning, or the wraith blades as they were lit by the unholy light. Not the green glow of Luke’s lightsaber, illuminating the ashy ground like a green flashlight.
No, this light was pale blue. It shimmered in the air, streaking a little it swept down, throwing the attackers off in one smooth movement.
It was a lightsaber, the blade blue and strong, the hilt –
The hilt was transparent, nothing but a blue glow, held in a transparent blue hand…”
Shadow of the Sithsubsequently confirms that this was indeed Anakin’s Force ghost who’d come to save his son, battling the nine wraiths with a lightsaber of his own before using his own power in the Force to send Luke back to Tythonand warn him of the return of an ancient darkness. Likewise, 2021’sGhosts of Vader’s Castlecomics saw Anakin’s Force ghost also using a lightsaber to lead a group of Rebels out of his old fortress on Mustafar and back to their ship following a conflict with Vader’s former servant Vaneé.
Anakin Can Be So Much More Than A Mere Presence
He Can Be An Active Ally (Within Reason)
Both aforementioned stories, and specificallyShadow of the Sith, help prove that Anakin’s Force ghost could become a more active player in theStar Warsgalaxy, despite his physical death after redeeming himself as Darth Vader.Anakin and Ahsoka’s lightsaber duel in the World Between Worldscould have been chalked up as only being possible due to it happening within the ethereal Force vergence.However, Anakin’s battle on Exegol to save his son suggests his Force ghost could just as easily fight the darkness in the physicalStar Warsgalaxy.
Without a doubt, Anakin’s Force ghost is already the most active Jedi Force ghost that’s ever been seen in theStar Warsfranchise. He isn’t just talking and offering guidance. That said, it’s possible his greater efforts can only happen for so long, and only in Force-rich environments such as the World Between Worlds, Tython, Exegol, and Mustafar. While he did use the Force to send his son back to Tython after fighting the wraiths, Anakin said it took all of his power as he then struggled to maintain his form before disappearing completely.

Anakin Could Help Bring Balance To The Force on Peridea
The exact rules and limitations are admittedly ambiguous. However,I do think there’s enough evidence to suggest that Anakin’s Force ghost could play an even bigger role inAhsokaseason 2, helping his former apprentice and Sabine Wren who are stranded on the extragalactic world of Peridea. A transparent lightsaber could certainly be wielded by the Chosen One, who could also be the key to sending Ahsoka and Sabine back to the knownStar Warsgalaxy.

Following the events of Ahsoka’s finale, Ezra Bridger is perfectly positioned to become a key Luke Skywalker replacement in Ahsoka season 2.
