A newly announced indie title calledMouse Workis aiming to sneak into the Nintendo Switch 2 launch lineup in June. This upcoming party game is being developed by Nitrome, which has mostly focused on mobile games in the past but also developed2022’sShovel Knight Digfor Switch. While there is currently no release date, the developers stated theyhope to get it into the hands of players around the Switch 2 launch, and the game seems awfully similar to another game released on the original Switch near its launch back in 2017.

Nitromeposted the reveal trailer on its official YouTube channel, and it features a pixel-art style with up to four players taking control of mice and completing mini-game challenges, such as getting a basketball in a hoop and painting various images and letters. The game will take advantage of theSwitch 2’s new mouse functionalityand its improved gyro controls.Nintendo Lifecompared the game toSnipperclips, another small game that was developed under similar circumstances for the original Switch.

Believe it or not,Mouse Workhas only been in development for four months, and in an interview withEurogamer,Nitrome founder Mat Annal stated thatthe game went into development based on a rumor of the Switch 2 having mouse functionality, saying:“The truth is that this project has been developed very rapidly after assuming the mouse mode rumour was true from the January Direct.”

Co-Op Multiplayer And Lots Of Mice

As the name probably implies,Mouse Workwill usethe mouse functionality of the Joy-Con 2controllers on Switch 2. Playersplay as computer mice that have been designed to look like real-life mice and complete various mini-games, or “jobs,” in order to earn cheddar for the mice. Co-op multiplayer adds additional challenges and tasks to the mini-games. New mini-games will be unlocked as players progress through the game, and previous mini-games will be available again with additional mechanics.
