Today, it was alack of knowledge of some of the general categoriesthat stumped me, and that is one thing that you cannot well prepare for without some hints as to what’s coming. However, you may use the hints we learned through fire to keep you from suffering the same fate.

As I stated, today’s puzzle will be more challenging depending on some more specialized knowledge of certain categories. While this is to an extent true in every puzzle, this one is trickybecause of the words that are actually used, as they are not as obviously different to someone who doesn’t know any better. To help you figure out what you’re missing, here are four clues:

Strands is one of New York Times' many puzzle games that consists of a unique 6x8 word search that requires players to use zig-zag solutions.

RANGE
SINK
This category was the easiest for me today, but there were still some tricky bits. This is because of CABINET, which is something that could easily belong with the rest of the kitchen items.Deciding which word to take out and which to add back incan be difficult, especially because not every kitchen has a RANGE. It is also a word that I could easily see belonging in some of the later categories. However, if you are paying attention to some of the later categories, it is clearer that you should not put CABINET here.
COUNCIL
PANEL
Once you have figured out the previous category, this one might be a little easier. PANEL might be harder, but the one thing that makes this category interesting is thatthese are all also wooden items, except for COUNCIL. At one point I had guessed all of these words with PLANK instead, and I was not sure what to do with the information that it was “one away” at first. Luckily I was able to figure this one out, even if the last couple of categories were less fortunate for me.

MOUNTAIN CLIMBER

This one was where I got a lot less lucky, as I am generally unaware of specific kinds of exercises like these. Even if I recognized PLANK and CRUNCH, which I am aware of, I wouldnot have recognized either BOAT or MOUNTAIN CLIMBERas a type of core exercise. It was unfortunate, as sometimes you can guess that a word is something else even if you don’t know the category well, but today that was not the case. And worse, I did not recognize many of the next category’s words either.
HOOP
STUD
While my ears are pierced and I even have more than one in my ear, I do not actually go out and buy earrings very often. Typically, I just wear a STUD or a bar, and all of the wooden items had me thinking about studs in a wall. I would have recognized HOOP if I thought about it, but Istill am not sure what a CHANDELIER earring is, although I could guess. Perhaps tomorrow I will be a little luckier, and it is always a new start with each new puzzle.

When I feel sad about not getting theConnectionspuzzle correct, I often go to one of the other puzzles and attempt to solve one of those instead. Today, that was just the regularWordlepuzzle for me since it is a little easier to figure out than the others in the box.
