NewSmallvilleart depicts Tom Welling’s Superman and theDCshow’s iteration of the Justice League with major costume changes. While the show ended more than a decade ago, many are still hoping to seeWelling suit up asSmallville’sSupermanin the future through a potential continuation.
Even though theSmallvilleseries finale ended with Clark Kent finally becoming Superman, Welling’s version of the Man of Steel never wore the full suit, as the DC icon was only seen with the costume through CGI. It wasn’t until the very final shot thatWelling wore part of the Superman costumewhen Clark did the famous shirt-rip before cutting to the credits.

While time will tell if Welling will get to reprise his version of Superman in the future,Buffy2Villeshared artwork recently of what Clark would look like in a Zack Snyder-inspired superhero suit. The artist also included Snyder-stylized costumes forSmallville’smany Justice League members. Check it out below:
TheSmallvillegallery gives costume upgrades for the following Justice League members: Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort), Impulse (Kyle Gallner), Green Arrow (Justin Hartley), and Aquaman (Alan Ritchson). While none of the Justice League members have returned to their roles sinceSmallvilleended, Wellling did appear in 2019’sCrisis on Infinite Earthscrossover for a special cameo during the Arrowverse event.

What The Smallville Art Means For Tom Welling’s Superman
Given the legacy ofSmallville, which paved the way for The CW’s Arrowverse franchise and helped comic book TV shows become more mainstream, it’s not a shock that fans are still showing their passion for the DC drama. Since TV revivals and sequels are happening now more than ever,Smallvilleremaining popular, and even finding new audiences among younger generations, makes it a prime candidate for a continuation.
Since Welling andSmallville’sLex Luthor actor, Michael Rosenbaum, have been working on an animated sequel show, there is a possibility of seeing this Superman and his Justice League come back, while also getting to evolve their superhero looks. If not in live-action, animation is one way to giveWelling’s Superman fromSmallvillea proper chance to be suited up more after the original series.
Our Take On The Smallville Art Of Tom Welling’s Superman
Given the art of Welling’s Superman andSmallville’sJustice Leaguewith upgraded costumes in the vein of Snyder’s style,it would have been fascinating to see how that would’ve been executed in live-action if they had gone with a similar design. But ifSmallvilleever returns, whatever suit upgrades they get would be more in tone with the show’s aesthetic.
ConsideringSmallville’sincredible legacy, it would be a shame not to revisit the show in one way or another, even for a limited run. But until it returns, regardless of whether it’s in live-action or animation, fans can relive every season ofSmallvillethrough home media release and on streaming.
