Trigun Stampede’s second season is well on the way, after an impressive first season back in 2023. In anticipation of the new season, original creator Yasuhiro Nightow has released some new artwork, celebrating both the classic andStampedeversions of one popular character.
Trigun Stargazeis the official name of the follow-up toTrigun Stampede, and will cover a very different section of Vash the Stampede’s story, following the destruction of the city of JuLai in the season finale ofStampede.Trigun Stargazewas announced on August 22, 2025, at LA’s Anime Expo in a presentation by Crunchyroll, confirming that the second season would arrive on the platform when it was finished. Little word on the second season has been released since the panel at Anime Expo, so fans have mostly been waiting to see a trailer or at least hear a release date. To tide them over, Nightow has provided a little extra artwork of Wolfwood.

Nightow Brings Wolfwood’s Two Designs to Life
Ahead of aTrigun Stampedeexhibition, a new piece of art by series creator Yasuhiro Nightow was released, showcasing Nicholas Wolfwood in both hisTrigun Maximummanga andTrigun Stampedeanime designs. The two Wolfwoods are each seen holding their respective versions of the Cross Punisher, weapons capable of inflicting tremendous damage that are also insanely bulky. It’s interesting to note the subtle differences between the two character designs, as though they’re clearly the same person, the designs show that he may be at very different points in his life.
Wolfwood is an extremely popular character inTrigun Stampede’s cast, and had plenty of backstory devoted to him in the first season, so fans expect a lot more to come with Wolfwood in the second season. As one of the most iconic characters aside from Vash himself, Wolfwood and his Cross Punisher are practically emblematic of the series. The weapon represents the weight of Wolfwood’s sins, a literal cross for the character to bear. Wolfwood’s travels with Vash cause him to blame himself further, seeing Vash live up to his ideals while Wolfwood can’t even try.

Wolfwood Was Left In Unknown Circumstances at the End of the First Season
In the final episode ofTrigun Stampede, Wolfwood was last seen helping Meryl to escape the imminent disaster, rushing her out of town just in time. The city of JuLai was destroyed, with over 90% of its population killed as a result of the battle between Vash and Knives. The episode undergoes a two-year timeskip, showing Meryl paying her respects at the site of the disaster years later. Wolfwood’s location at this time is unknown, and there’s no telling what has become of him in the time since.
Highlighting Wolfwood is certainly interesting given where his character was left at the end ofStampede, but no doubt everyone’s favorite assassin-priest will have a role to play yet inTrigun Stampede’s continuation.
