The mostly dialogue-free trailer begins with a series of seemingly tranquil images set to an eerie, minor key version of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.” However, as the video goes on, more and more creepy science fiction imagery begins to invade the screen, including bright lights in the sky, mysterious figures glimpsed in night vision, an alien attack in an orchard, and a POV shot of a person falling from an exploding plane.
V/H/S/Beyond Is Expanding Kate Siegel And Mike Flanagan’s Repertoire
The Duo Are Pushing The Envelope In More Ways Than One
This new sci-fi tinged expansion to theV/H/Smoviesoffers frequent collaborators Kate Siegel and Mike Flanagan a chance to expand their repertoire in multiple new ways. This includes Siegel making her directorial debut with their segment, titled “Stowaway,” after many years as an actor. However, despite the duo working together on many previous projects in the horror genre includingThe Haunting of Hill House,Midnight Mass,Hush, andOculus, this new movie offers a major first for them.

Their segment inV/H/S/Beyondwill be the first time a collaboration between the pair has blended horror with science fiction, allowing the duo to expand the scope of the usual collaborations considerably. While not many details are yet known about the plot of “Stowaway,” the trailer for the new movie reveals that each of the segments should include traditional sci-fi iconography that will extend the duo beyond the supernatural realm of the majority of their collaborations.
V/H/S/Beyondcould potentially provide a bridge to the more science fiction-flavored Stephen King adaptation that the duo have recently wrapped, theupcomingThe Life of Chuck, which also stars Tom Hiddleston, Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, and Jacob Tremblay. That movie, which is not a horror property, will be even more of a boundary-pushing effort for the pair, so their anthology segment could provide a small taste of what is to come in the larger project, which does not yet have an official release date following its TIFF premiere in September.
