Inside Out 2gave Riley new emotions to deal with as she got older, raising the question of where they came from.Inside Out 2proved a massive success for Pixar and is now the highest-grossing movie produced by the studio by a considerable margin. Not only that, butInside Out 2’s box office numbersallow it to rank as the highest-grossing animated movie in history. Given the franchise’s success, it is no surprise that anInside OutTV spin-offis being released on Disney+.
A large portion of the film’s critical and commercial success came fromInside Out 2’s emotionally resonant story. The exploration ofRiley’s sense of self inInside Out 2gave her a great character arc after the first movie, as did the decision to show her exploring new friendships and environments. Wisely, the filmmakers chose to pair these changes withInside Out 2’s brand-new emotions, with Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment joining Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust. Given that these emotions were not in the first movie, questions were raised over where they came from.

Riley’s New Emotions Come From A New Part Of Headquarters
Headquarters' Unknown Sections Provide Riley With New Emotions
Interestingly,Inside Out 2does not show Riley’s new emotions entering Headquarters. At the end of the film’s first act, Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment simply turn up and begin explaining how they fit into Riley’s personality. However, there is one hint that could explain where they come from, leaving room for future installments in theInside Outuniverse to explore this to a greater extent.
All 12 Known Emotion Characters Cut From Inside Out 2
Pixar came up with a lot more than just 5 new emotion characters for Inside Out 2, but the rest were all cut. Would they have changed the story?
At the back of Headquarters, a small door is shown. It is implied that the new emotions came through this door to enter the central hub of Riley’s mind. While the characters were not shown doing so, this is certainly a logical exploration of their appearance inInside Out 2, as is even supported by the humorous inclusion of another emotion that plays a smaller role in the film’s story.

There Are Other Emotions In Headquarters Waiting To Move In
Nostalgia Proves More Emotions Are Hidden Somewhere In Headquarters
The door in Headquarters is first shown shortly after Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment make their debut inInside Out 2. Another emotion named Nostalgia, depicted as an elderly lady, enters Riley’s mind through the door and begins reminiscing about when they all first gathered in Headquarters. Anxiety states that Nostalgia should not be prevalent for another 10 or so years into Riley’s life, pushing her back through the door and shutting it behind her.
Therefore, two things aboutInside Out 2are confirmed; The door must be how the four new emotions entered Headquarters, but it also proves that other emotions are somewhere behind the door waiting to move into Riley’s mindlike Nostalgia is. This paves the way for many moreemotions of theInside Outworldto be introduced should the franchise spawn a third movie, something that is all the more likely after the immense success ofInside Out 2.
