DespiteRyan Murphy’s “no vampire” rule forAmerican Horror Story, season 10’sPale People are very similar to the vampires fromHotel. Although there has never been any kind of confirmation from Murphy that these creatures are related to the ones in season 5, the shared characteristics are evident.The Pale People still drink human blood to survive — but their transformation is completely differentand more horrific.

The main difference between the two types of creatures inAHSis that Pale People can be out during the day. InHotel, the sunlight isn’t deadly to the vampires, but it does dampen their supernatural abilities. Because of this, the vampires hunt during the night and sleep during the day. Lady Gaga’s Countess even has small cages made for the vampire children so they can all sleep in the day. Whereas,the Pale People inRed Tidedon’t seem to have indoor shelterat all. They just hunt and wander around Provincetown day and night.
Hotel’s vampires are affected by being bitten by another vampire, but the Pale People have to take a black pill.
Another key difference between the two is their appearances.The vampires inHotellook young forever, while the Pale People (also known as Flesh Phantoms) begin to lose their hair and develop sharper teeth, with their skin turning completely pale, conforming to a more stereotypical vampire aesthetic. As well as this,Hotel’svampires are affected by being bitten by another vampire, but the Pale People have to take a black pill. Despite their clear differences, there are a few common traits between these groups. Both feed off blood to survive, causing suffering and death wherever they go. The two types of monsters originally began as regular humans that were turned due to desperate measures. The Pale People took the black pill to become talented and make something out of their lives, whereasthe vampires inHotelwere usually bitten as a way to save themselves from death. For instance, the Countess bites Donovan (Matt Bomer) to save his life when he is dying from a drug overdose.

Perhaps when the Chemist (Angelica Ross) was making the black pill, she added a few drops of vampire blood into the creation — or it is just a coincidence.
