Okay, Now I Fully Support This Yellowjackets Theory On Who Really Burned Down The Cabin In (& It’s Not Coach Ben)
Yellowjackets season 3 has revealed that Ben didn’t burn down the cabin, but there’s plenty of evidence to suggest another character is to blame.
Following Coach Scott’s guilty verdict, the survivors inYellowjackets' ’90s timeline decided that Ben should be sentenced to death. While “Other” Tai nearly killed Ben, he was saved byAkilah’s vision claiming Coach Scott was the “bridge"for the group to get back home.Keeping Ben alive essentially keeps the hope of being rescued alive, even if the group doesn’t completely understand what Akilah’s vision means. Still, Natalie can’t continue forcing Ben to live in his current condition, especially if he’s being forced to live as a prisoner.

Why Ben Wanted Natalie To Kill Him
Coach Scott Was Ready For His Time In The Wilderness To Be Over
Coach Scott initially pleads for his life before his planned death by firing squad. However, the pleas from Ben turn to wishes of death inYellowjacketsseason 3, episode 6, with the character begging Natalie to kill him. To ensure the group that Ben won’t escape, Shauna and Melissa slice his Achilles tendon, meaning he has no chance of leaving the animal pen. Nat is then tasked with providing Ben with all of his meals, and with each delivery, he asks her to kill him.It gets so bad that Coach Scott goes on a hunger strike, which becomes a major factor in Nat’s decision.
Nat couldn’t save him during the trial, so killing him is her way of giving Ben what he wants.

Nat no longer has the strength to encounter Ben wishing for death, so Mari takes over the food delivery before finding out that he hasn’t been eating. The survivors take matters into their own hands, force-feeding Ben with a funnel and tube. It may keep him alive, but it proves to Nat that Coach Scott can’t go on like that. Nat couldn’t save him during the trial, so killing him is her way of giving Ben what he wants. As Nat hesitates to plunge the large knife into her coach’s heart, it’s Ben who grabs her hands to give her the courage, setting him free from his pain.
Shauna Likely Understands Nat’s Decision To Kill Coach Scott
Once the others figure out what Natalie has done, they are understandably upset.Yellowjacketshas proven that all major decisions must be voted on by the group, but in this case, Nat does what she thinks is right. Lottie names Shauna the new Antler Queen, stripping Natalie of the leadership role while avoiding another trial. As punishment for killing Coach Scott, Shauna forces Natalie to prepare the dead body for their next feast.

Misty and others likely want a harsher penalty, but having Nat cut up Coach Scott’s body after the mercy kill is still gruesome. When Natalie walks out of the pen with a bloody knife, the weight of what she had to do to “save” Ben fully hits her. Clearly traumatized, Shauna knows that forcing Nat to prepare Ben’s body in order for them to eat him is still a punishment, even if she could have come up with something worse, like death.
Shauna is still on her power trip, and that probably won’t change inYellowjacketsseason 3 now that she’s the Antler Queen, but it seems like she sympathizes with Nat’s decision to kill Ben, even if she doesn’t agree with it. While the ceremony to honor Coach Scott is more for the wilderness, there are others like Nat who truly wanted the situation to work out differently.
