EveryBaldur’s Gate 3class can be great when given the chance, and this is especially true of the least-played option. While options like the monk and ranger have been famously divisive, they aren’t actually the ones at the very bottom of the popularity contest. Instead, the least love has been shown to clerics, typically thought of as the primary healers inBaldur’s Gate 3and its tabletop source,Dungeons & Dragons.
It’s sad to seeone of the classes with the most potential for combatand world immersion go so unloved. Though there is a cleric companion, the paladin, fighter, rogue, and barbarian were also popular choices despite there already being companions of those classes in the game. Ultimately, however, there’s a great reason to play a cleric inBaldur’s Gate 3.

Clerics Don’t Have To Fill A Support Role
Clerics Are Unmatched Damage Dealers InBaldur’s Gate 3
The cleric’s status as the least popular class was confirmed by statistics from the officialBaldur’s Gate 3Twitter account, but there’s no good reason to dismiss clerics as nothing more than primary healers. In fact, healing should really be considered a secondary function, as you’re very rarely going to be able to heal your allies at the same rate as the damage they’re taking. Any seasonedDungeons & Dragonsplayer should know that clerics can actually bedevastating damage dealers when built correctly, and in some cases, they can even be superior to “traditional” DPS classes like the paladin.
TheLight and Tempest domains are great subclass choicesfor dealing fire and lightning damage -the Tempest domain’s “Destructive Wrath” feature is incredibly powerful, especially against enemies with the “Wet” condition. However, all clerics get access to some undeniably powerful spells - spirit guardiansallows players to guard certain areas or deal damage simply by walking around, which proves incredibly useful when it comes to dealing with swarms of enemies with little health. This is especially useful in any of the battles within the"Lift the Shadow Curse" questline.
Clerics Have The Most Customization Options For Roleplay
The Cleric Is The Only Class That Can Worship A Specific Deity
Without mods, clerics are the only class inBaldur’s Gate 3who can choose a deity to worship. This adds anextra level of immersion to the roleplayer’s experienceand allows players to feel slightly more in tune with the world of Faerûn. Some deities can only be chosen by clerics of certain backgrounds, narrowing down the chance players will know that they are able to choose them as a worship option even further. The unique deity options are as follows:
Only available to Duergar
Lolth
Lolth-sworn drow can only pick Lolth as their deity, whereas Seldarine Drow cannot pick her.
Only available to Shadowheart
Vlaakith
Only available to Githyanki
Playing as a cleric opensup new dialogue unavailable to any other class. Some especially notable interactions are dealing with the fake paladins of Tyr as an actual worshiper and talking to Shadowheart as a Selûnite. The cleric is one of the most powerful and customizable classes inBaldur’s Gate 3, and it should be considered by more players for their next run.
